Marian J. Steele

Marian J. Steele, age 84, of Decorah, Iowa, died Friday, January 2, 2009 at The Village at Legacy Pointe Nursing Facility in Waukee, Iowa following a long illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 6, 2009 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Steven M. Jacobsen officiating. Burial will be in Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Monday, January 5, 2009 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and an hour prior to the services on Tuesday at the church. Marian Jeanette Odella (Quam) Steele was born August 20, 1924 in Decorah, Iowa, the daughter of Alfred C. Quam and M. Remelia (Ramsey) Quam. She was baptized and confirmed at Glenwood Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. Marion was educated in Decorah and received her G.E.D. from Decorah High School. She was united in marriage to Roy F. Steele on September 27, 1941 at Rev. Bodahmer’s parsonage in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. This union was blessed with four children: Sandra, James, Michael and Russell. Marian worked in her home as a homemaker for many years. She also worked several years for Wheatman Cleaners until her retirement. Her memberships include First Lutheran Church where she was an active member of circle for many years. Marian became a resident of The Village at Legacy Pointe Nursing Facility in Waukee, Iowa on June 10, 2008. She was preceded in death by her husband, Roy on June 26, 2007; her parents, Alfred and Remelia Quam; one son-in-law, Robert Douglas; two brothers, Milford Quam and Odin Quam; two sisters, Ruby D'Oliveira and Arlene Doubek, and 4 great-grandchildren. Marian is survived by her four children: Sandra Douglas of Gardner, KS, James (Mary Ann) Steele of Fairborn, OH, Michael (Norma) Steele of Forest City, IA and Russell (Diane) Steele of Clive, IA; eleven grandchildren, Carissa (Stephen) Headley, Rhonda (David) Hinkson, Paul (Melanie) Douglas, Robert Douglas, James Douglas, Beth (Brian) Hetzel, Lora (David) Struble, Tanya Steele, Samara (Tim) Buelna, Brooke Steele and Brian Steele; eleven great grandchildren, Montgomery and Caitlin Headley, Jason, Christopher and Joseph Hinkson, Savannah Boeckholt, Isaiah, Kobe and Skylar Buelna, Braden and Emmy Hetzel; two great great granddaughters; two sisters, Gladys Olson of Mount Sterling, WI and Alice (Edwin) Macha of Decorah, IA; and by one brother, Arthur (Bud) (Roselyn) Quam of Decorah, IA.
