Margaret Sorenson

July 7, 1921 — January 10, 2018

     Margaret Sorenson, age 96, of Decorah, IA, died on Wednesday, January 10, 2018, at Aase Haugen Senior Services in Decorah.      Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 15, 2018 at the Washington Prairie Lutheran Church, 1725 Washington Prairie Rd., rural Decorah, with Rev. Jenny Edinger presiding.  Burial will be in the Phelps Cemetery at a later date.      Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Monday morning.       Margaret Gail (Matter) Sorenson was born on July 7, 1921 the daughter of John and Emma (Stoskoff) Matter on the family farm near Decorah.  She married R. Willard Sorenson on February 28, 1946 in the parsonage at the Decorah Lutheran Church.  Together they farmed north of Decorah for five years on the Matter farm and then moved to Springfield township and farmed there until they moved to Decorah in 1976.  Margaret loved farming and being on the farm.  She also enjoyed bowling and playing cards.  She was an active member of Washington Prairie Lutheran Church and served three times on the WELCA council.       Margaret is survived by her special nephew: Tom Keefe, Racine, WI. along with several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.       Margaret was preceded in death by her husband R. Willard Sorenson on September 18, 2001.  Parents: John and Emma (Stoskoff) Matter.  Five sisters: Florence Lensing, Hattie Keefe, Alma Harvey, Bernice Landswerk and Ethel Sensor.  Five brothers: Willard in infancy, Elmer, Leonard, Walter and Roger Matter.    Father and mother-in-law: Lars and Ida (Lien) Sorenson.  Brothers and sister-in-law: Myrtle Philips, Leonard, Glen, Edwin Sorenson and Selma Hotvedt.
