Margaret Mottley

Margaret Grigsby Mottley, 92, passed away on September 7, 2016 at the Barthell OES Home in Decorah, Iowa. She was born in 1924 to Jack and Edith Grigsby in Palestine, Texas. She was married to James Robert (Bob) Mottley for 55 years. They had five children: James Robert (Kaiserslautern, Germany), Carolyn (Decorah, IA), Laura (Georgetown, TX), Ellen (Parkdale, OR), and Jack Grigsby (Rochester, NY). In addition to her five children and their spouses, four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, she is survived by her sister Janet Jones of California, and six nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and one niece. She was a life-long member of the Episcopal Church and served as Administrator of the National Grigsby Family Society for over 10 years. She was an accomplished musician who played percussion in high school marching band and community band, played the organ in church, and in her later years could often be found singing classic songs with the staff at the Barthell OES Home. She was an avid reader who enjoyed genealogy, travel, volunteer work, and amused her family and friends with her wry humor. A graveside service will be held in Palestine at a later date.
