Marcella Mary Vsetecka, age 93, of Decorah, IA, died on Sunday, July 1, 2012, at the Winneshiek Medical Center, in Decorah, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 5, 2012, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, IA, with Rev. Phillip Gibbs presiding. Burial will be in St. Benedict’s Catholic Cemetery in Decorah. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m., at the church on Thursday morning. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements. Marcella Mary Vsetecka was born on November 21, 1918, the daughter of Frank and Annastasia (Klima) Vsetecka on the family farm, in Jackson Township, near Jackson Junction, IA. Marcella was baptized and confirmed at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville. She received her grade school education at School District #7 south of her home. Marcella attended parochial school at St. Wenceslaus School. She grew up on the family farm. Early on she went to live and work in Decorah, Cresco, Minneapolis and Waterloo. In 1946, she came back and settled in Decorah. Throughout her lifetime she was employed as a homemaker, waitress, dietary aide, dental assistant, and lastly a nurse’s aide. After retirement, Marcella and her sister, Gertrude became caregivers for their parents and several other family members. They enjoyed traveling together on occasion. She loved the outdoors. Marcella enjoyed gardening and her yard was her pride and joy. Her hobbies were many, and the latest genealogy – doing the family tree. She also loved entertaining her family and taking them to Phelps Park for picnics. Marcella was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church. Marcella is survived by her two brothers: Alvin (Patricia) Vsetecka, Lawler, IA, and Raphael “Ray” (Delores) Vsetecka, Cresco, IA. One sister-in-law: Phyllis Vsetecka, Lawler, IA, along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Marcella was preceded in death by her parents: Frank and Annastasia (Klima) Vsetecka. Three sisters: Gertrude Vsetecka, Elsie (Leonard) Chihak, and Margaret (Leonard) Panos. Four brothers: Frank Vsetecka, Cletus (Wilma) Vsetecka, James (Edith) Vsetecka and Marceline in infancy.
