Lucille White, age 91, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Wednesday, November 14, 2007, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a short illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 17, 2007, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton, Iowa, with Rev. Richard Ament officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, and one hour prior to mass at the church on Saturday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home. Lucille Emogene Marsolette (Uhlenhake) White was born on August 29, 1916, the daughter of Ted and Mary Ann (Vondersitt) Uhlenhake in Ossian, Iowa. Lucille graduated from St. Francis DeSales Catholic School in Ossian, Iowa. She married John Thomas White on February 7, 1933, at St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Bluffton, Iowa. Together they farmed in the Plymouth Rock and Burr Oak areas, then to the stone house in Bluffton in 1944, where they farmed until 1986. Lucille worked in the dietary department of the Winneshiek County Hospital for ten years. Lucille entered the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in June of 2006. Lucille volunteered at the Senior Citizen’s center and at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home. She was a member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church and the Decorah Senior Citizen’s Center. She enjoyed gardening, playing cards, quilting, sewing and shopping. Lucille’s survivors include five daughters: Florence “Peggy” Combs, Cedar Falls, IA; Evelyn (Jerry) Kingsley, Ridgeway, IA; Eileen (Gary) Bartlett, Shepherd, MI; Laura White, Des Moines, IA and MaryAnn (Tim) Flynn, Bluffton, IA. Two sons: Richard (Nancy) White, Bluffton, IA and Steve (Cheryl) White, Bluffton, IA. Fourteen grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Four sisters: Alice Frana, Ridgeway, IA; LouEllen Chase, Waterloo, IA; Marilyn Fuggiti, Waterloo, IA and Dolores Simmons, Cedar Falls, IA. One brother: Merlin Uhlenhake, Waterloo, IA. Lucille was preceded in death by her parents: Ted and Mary Ann Uhlenhake. Her husband: John on April 11, 1991. One grandson: Raymond Bruening. Two sisters: Verla Adams and Mary Uhlenhake at birth. Two brothers: Maurant Joseph Uhlenhake and Clarence Uhlenhake in infancy.
