Lowell G. Haemker, age 89, of Decorah, Iowa, died Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah following a long illness. Graveside Services will be on Monday, February 4, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. at Randhill Park Cemetery in Arlington Heights, IL. Ahlgrim Family Funeral Services in Palatine, IL handled those arrangements. Memorial Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, February 5, 2008 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah by Rev. Joan A. Mau. Lowell George Haemker was born March 3, 1918 in Palatine, Illinois, the son of Louis and Frieda (Whierdt) Haemker. He was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine. Lowell graduated from Palatine High School with the class of 1936. He was united in marriage to Virginia I. Helgeson on May 31, 1942 in Palatine, IL. This union was blessed with two children: Candace and Jim. Lowell served in the U.S. Army from April 22, 1941 to June 14, 1945, serving in North Africa, France and Italy. Lowell worked as a salesman for electrical supplies manufacturers Bryant Electric Co., National Electric Co, and Appleton Electric. He retired in 1984 after 40 years in sales. His memberships included Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah and he was formerly a long-time member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine, IL. Lowell was dedicated to his church, his family and especially his grandsons and friends. Lowell became a resident of Aase Haugen Home in Decorah on April 24, 2002. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia, on September 1, 2003; and two grandsons: Matthew and Mark Gomez. He is survived by his daughter, Candace (John) Gomez of Sparta, WI; his son, Jim (Susan) Haemker of Decorah; three grandchildren: Brent (Kris) Gomez, Andrew Haemker and Bryce Haemker; a great-grandchild, Lauren Gomez; his brother, Clifford (Mary) Haemker of Missoula, MT; his sister, Iris Jurgensen of Waukesha, WI; and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, IA and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Decorah.
