Louis Wedo, age 70, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Sunday, July 29, 2007, at the Winneshiek Medical Center, Decorah, Iowa, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 2, 2007, at the Glenwood Lutheran Church with Rev. Douglas Mathison officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood East Cemetery, rural Decorah, Iowa with military rites at the graveside. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Thursday morning. There will be a VFW Memorial service at the funeral home at 6:00 p.m. Wednesday evening. Louis Robert “Louie” Wedo was born a twin, on July 17, 1937, the son of Charles and Margaret (Sampson) Wedo in Postville, Iowa. Louie attended Postville schools and served in the US Navy from 1956-59 aboard the USS Essex. Louie married Ileen Moen on June 20, 1959 at the Glenwood Lutheran Church. Louie worked for HyGrade in Postville from 1959-61; then moving to Decorah and working for Lang’s Dairy from 1961-77; Winneshiek County Memorial Hospital from 1977-86; and Peoples Natural Gas from 1986-99. He received his GED in 1967. Louie also milked cows and farmed near Decorah all his working years. He was a life-long member of the Glenwood Lutheran Church, past commander of the Helof-Holm VFW Chapter #1977 and served as past president of the Decorah Kilties. Louie enjoyed bowling and working with the people at the hospital. Louis’ survivors include his daughter: Juanita (Mike) Malanaphy, Decorah, IA. One son: Scott (Marjorie) Wedo, Decorah, IA. Six grandchildren: Ryan (Lauren) Wedo, Brian (Bree) Malanaphy, Aaron (Amber) Wedo, Jamie Malanaphy, Austin (fiancé Jana) Wedo and Carly Malanaphy. One great grandson: Braydon Wedo. Two brothers: LaVern C. Wedo and his twin, Robert (Audrey) Wedo, all of Postville, IA. Four sisters-in-law: Deloris “Dodie” (Edward) Vlasek, Cedar Rapids, IA; Carol Ann (Gary) Bahr, Waukon, IA, Darlene (Gordon, Jr.) Kaesar, Waukon, IA, and Bernice Barnes, Postville, IA, and many nieces and nephews. Louis was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Ileen on October 31, 2006; two brothers: Charles Wedo, Jr. in 1959 and Duane Wedo in 1978; one sister: Betty Flack; one nephew: Michael Wedo and one great niece.
