Loretta Collins, age 81, of Decorah, IA died Friday, February 15, 2013 at Wellington Place in Decorah, IA. Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2013, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 South Maryville Street, in Calmar, IA, with Rev. Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the St. Aloysius Cemetery. There will be visitation at the church after 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Calmar is in charge of arrangements. Loretta Agnes (Luzum) Collins was born on April 16, 1931, the daughter of William and Leona (Schissel) Luzum, on the family farm west of Calmar, Iowa. Loretta was baptized, received First Holy Communion and was confirmed at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar. Loretta attended St. Aloysius Elementary Catholic School. Loretta worked for Collins Radio in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was married to Alfred Collins in Calmar, Iowa. They lived in Terra Haute, Indiana and then to Rochester, New York, and they had four sons: Donald, Jeffrey, Michael and Joseph. Loretta worked at the Red Vest in Calmar until she was a resident at Wellington Place Nursing Home for many years. She helped in the assisted living with daily chores and also at Spectrum Industries in Decorah. Loretta was recently a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church in Decorah. Loretta’s survivors include her four sons: Donald, Jeffrey, Michael and Joseph. Brothers and sisters: Arnold (Irma) Luzum, St. Lucas, IA; Florence Hackman, Decorah, IA; Vic Luzum, Decorah, IA, Rita Humpal, Decorah, IA; Francis Luzum, Cedar Rapids, IA; Joan (George) McCusker, Overland Park, KS; Monica (Tony) Steinlage, Decorah, IA; Bill (Jan) Luzum, Benson, MN; and James (Arlene) Luzum; Rosemount, MN. Two sisters-in-law: JoAnn Luzum of Calmar, IA; and Dorothy Luzum, Denver, CO. Loretta was preceded in death by her parents: William and Leona (Schissel) Luzum. Brothers: Clarence Luzum, Paul Luzum and Leo (Darlene Schneberger) Luzum. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Othmar Hackman, Herman Steinlage, Esther (Schmitt) Luzum, Kara (Sizemore) Luzum, and Rudy Humpal.
