Loras Reicks, age 82, of St. Lucas, IA died Friday, January 17, 2020 at his home. Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, January 24, 2020, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, in St. Lucas, Iowa, with Rev. Aaron Junge presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be after 9:00 a.m., at the church on Friday morning. Loras Carl Reicks was born August 16, 1937 to James and Eleanor (Bushe) Reicks. Loras attended the St. Luke Catholic School in St. Lucas through the ninth grade. He was a life time member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church. He enlisted in the United States Navy and served aboard the USS Crow, a minesweeper along the gulf coast and in the U.S., Virgin Islands from 1955 to 1957. After receiving an honorable discharge, he returned home to farm with his family. Loras worked for Drilling Tiling for many years. He later worked for Schmitt Fertilizer. Loras enjoyed attending auctions, playing cards with his friends and visiting with family and nieces and nephews. Loras is survived by four sisters, Edie Shindelar, Spillville, IA; Anita Imoehl, Decorah, IA; Monica Brooks, Cedar Rapids, IA; and Verna (Al) Chacey, Longville, MN; Brother, Denis Reicks, Cresco, IA; Sister-in-law, Florence Reicks, Alta Vista, IA along with many nieces and nephews. Loras was preceded in death by his parents, one sister, Arlene Bodensteiner, three brothers: Leo, Cyril and Roger Reicks. Sister-in-law: Judy Reicks and brothers-in-law: Leo Bodensteiner, Alvin Shindelar and Merlin Imoehl.
