Lola Duff, age 96, of Decorah, passed away peacefully at the Ossian Senior Hospice Wednesday, October 18th, 2023. A private family burial service will take place at the Phelps Cemetery, Decorah, IA, Monday, October 23, 2023. Lola Mae (Blair) Duff was born Oct. 19, 1926, in Rochester, TX to Alverine and Earl Blair. She grew up with one sister, Wedia and one brother, Udell. On April 7, 1945, she married Richard Duff in Vernon, TX. To this union one child, Dale, was born and the couple adopted two additional children: Larry and Sue. Lola and Richard moved to Decorah after WWII when Dick finished serving in the army. Dick and his brother, John opened a car and electronics repair shop which later Dick and Lola turned into an apartment complex. Lola worked for the Bell phone company for over 40 years. After the phone company she worked at the Winneshiek County courthouse in the clerk of court office. Upon her retirement from the courthouse, Lola continued to manage her apt. complex. She was actively involved with the Eastern Star ladies and served as leader for several years. Lola loved to cook and was always prepared to feed whoever showed up at her house. She was famous for her fried chicken! She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles and caring for animals. Lola was always active and constantly on the go. She was always thinking of others, she was kind and a true southern lady. Lola was destined to be a grandmother to her grands and greats. Her favorite thing to do was to dote on her grandkids. Lola is survived by her children: Larry (Judy) Duff of Waterloo, Sue (Bruce) Anderson of Decorah. Grandchildren Luke Duff of New Hartford, IA, Cory Hart of WA, Justin (Brittnie) Landsgard of Ames, IA, Niki (Ethan)(Landsgard) Rink of Protovin, and Wyatt Anderson. Great-grandchildren: Dylan Hart, Lillie and Sawyer Landsgard, Boden Rink and baby Rink (due soon), and Raylee Anderson. Preceded in death by her parents and siblings; husband, Richard; son, Dale, and numerous in-laws.
