Lois Mae Thompson, age 86, of Decorah, IA, died on Sunday, June 15, 2014, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, IA. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2014, at the First Lutheran Church, 604 West Broadway St., Decorah, IA, with Rev. Chad Huebner presiding. Friends may call after 12:00 noon until time of service at the Church on Wednesday. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is assisting the family. Lois Mae (Woolridge) Thompson was born on October 24, 1929, the daughter of Louis and Myrtle (Fretheim) Woolridge, near Decorah, IA. Lois was baptized on November 17, 1929 and confirmed on May 14, 1944 at the Madison Lutheran Church. Lois attended and graduated from Ridgeway High School in 1949. She was united in marriage to Ernest “Ernie” Thompson on June 5, 1949, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Lois worked at Luther College as a custodian for twenty-six years. Lois loved taking care of her family and was always baking and cooking and making sure that they were well fed. Lois was a kind, quiet person who enjoyed doing embroidery, cross-stitching, and playing cards. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas and enjoyed getting gifts for everyone as well as gathering all of the family. Lois treasured her family and grandchildren and enjoyed going places with Ernie; especially to the family table restaurant. Lois was a member of the First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Lois Mae is survived by her four children: Wanda (Erlin) Walter, Decorah, IA; Daryl (Nolan Moyer) Thompson, Easton, PA; Dean (Sue) Thompson, Mabel, MN; and Jeff (Denise) Thompson, Dubuque, IA. Grandchildren: Darrin Walter, Dan (Mollie) Walter, Tina (Bruce) Michels, Tonya (Adam) Tollefsrud, Michele (Justin) Birdsell, Erica (Mitch) Hanson, Nicholas (Abbie) Thompson, Willie (Regina) Thompson, Melissa (Chad) Driscoll, Hannah Kafar, Mike (Laurie) Farrell, Tony Farrell, Sandy Farrell, Paul Farrell, Will Farrell and thirty-three great grandchildren. Four sisters-in-law: Jeanette Wilhem, Mesa, AZ, Beverly Starkey, Waterloo, IA, Phyllis Thompson, Decorah, IA, and Margaret “Cookie” Thompson, Calmar, IA, along with many nieces and nephews. Lois Mae was preceded in death by her parents: Louis and Myrtle (Fretheim) Woolridge. Her husband: Ernest Thompson on Feb. 7, 2014. One grandson: Mickey Thompson on July 29, 2000. Her father and mother-in-law: Benjamin and Amanda (Albertson) Thompson. Four brothers-in-law: Stanley Thompson, Melvin Thompson, Einer Thompson and Melvin Wilhelm. One sister-in-law: Alice Thompson.
