Lois C. Hagensick, age 97, of Decorah, Iowa, died Friday, January 23, 2009 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah by Rev. Carol A. Kress with burial in Oakland Cemetery in Waukon, IA. Visitation is from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. Monday, January 26 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah, and after 8:00 A.M. Tuesday at Fjelstul Funeral Home. Lois Charlotte (Bacon) Hagensick was born November 15, 1911, at home in rural Monona, Clayton County, Iowa, the daughter of John Claude and Ruby (Thornton) Bacon. She attended rural country school in Clayton County. She was united in marriage to Joseph L. Hagensick on November 14, 1928 at McGregor United Methodist Church in McGregor, Iowa. This union was blessed with one son: John “Jack”. Lois and Joseph lived for a short time in Marquette and in 1930 they moved to Waukon and started farming. They moved to Waterville in 1940, to Castalia in 1949 and in 1966 to Decorah. She became a resident of Aase Haugen Home in September, 2003. Lois was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Decorah where she was an active member of the United Methodist Women. After moving to Decorah, Lois worked for the Priscilla Shop, Wapsie Produce and then worked as the head housekeeper for the Cliff House Motel, retiring in 1978. Her many interests included gardening, sewing, cooking, baking and playing cards. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph on April 5, 2000; and by one sister, Leone Gruber on April 1, 2003. Lois is survived by her son, Jack (Sally) Hagensick of Castalia, IA; five grandchildren: Rick (Charlene) Hagensick of Waukon, IA, Barbara (Rick) Schares of Readlyn, IA, Brenda (Dave) McConnell of Decorah, IA, Rodney Hagensick of Decorah, IA, and Rusty (Deb) Hagensick of Castalia, IA; 15 great-grandchildren: Travis Hagensick, Cory (Kelly) Hagensick, Callie Hagensick, Michael (Brayanne) Hagensick, Angie (Dustin) Moulds, Tanya (Keith) Brunscheon, Kenrick Schares, Shane Hagensick, Troy (Kristie) Hagensick, E.J. Hagensick, Ethan Hagensick, Regan McConnell, Sara (Zach) Bulman, Devin Berger and Kelsie Hagensick; 7 great-great-grandchildren; one sister, Doris “Mike” (James) Ewing of Postville, IA; and by many nieces and nephews.
