Lillian Brandenburg, age 80, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Monday, September 11, 2006, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, Iowa, following a lingering illness. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 16, 2006 at the Grace Fellowship Church in Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Michael McCann and Rev. Bruce Brandenburg officiating. Burial will be in the Norwegian Methodist Cemetery, rural Decorah, Iowa. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 12:00 noon at the church on Saturday. Lillian Bernice (Wise) Brandenburg was born on November 18, 1925, the daughter of Daniel and Alma (Hover) Wise at the Smith Memorial Hospital in Decorah, Iowa. Lillian graduated from Decorah High School in 1943, attended Luther College from 1943-44; graduated from the Kahler School of Nursing in Rochester, MN from 1944-47 as a registered nurse; and then attended the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis, MN from 1947-48. Lillian married Carl Brandenburg on November 14, 1948 at the Decorah Methodist Church. Lillian worked as a registered nurse at the Decorah Hospital from 1947-48; Waverly Hospital in 1950; County Home in Freeport from 58-59; Dr. Lester Larsen from 1961-62; and for the Aase Haugen Nursing Home for 12 years. Lillian enjoyed knitting, crocheting and sewing. Lillian’s survivors include her three daughters: Carla (Preston) Kappes, West Jordan, UT; Beth Kiihn, Fairmont, MN and Charlene Brandenburg, Allen, TX. One son: Rev. Bruce (Marnee) Brandenburg, Crystal, MN. One brother: Daniel (EvaLou) Wise, Palatine, IL and one sister-in-law: Madelyn Wise, Decorah, IA. Eight grandchildren: John (Stacie) Brandenburg, Paul (Jodi) Brandenburg, Sara (Steve) Muhr, Ben (Toni) Brandenburg, Branden (Ronel) Kappes, Seth (Jen) Kappes, Elijah and Ezra Kiihn. Two great grandchildren: Sadie & Avery Kappes and many nieces and nephews. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl on June 17, 1981; one son Charles Lynn on August 25, 1952; and one brother: Wilbur Wise in 1976.
