Lillian Borseth, age 89, of Decorah, Iowa, died on Thursday, May 28, 2009, at Wellington Place in Decorah, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 2, 2009, at Wellington Place at 2479 River Rd., Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Steven Jacobsen officiating. Burial will be in the Lincoln Cemetery, Ridgeway, IA. Friends may call after 9:00 a.m. at Wellington Place on Tuesday morning. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements. Lillian Gertrude (Peterson) Bakken Borseth was born on February 20, 1920, the daughter of Even and Ida (Borseth) Peterson on the family farm in Madison Township. Lillian was baptized and confirmed at the Madison Lutheran Church. Lillian attended country school and graduated from Decorah High School in 1938. She worked as a homemaker aide, was employed at the Decorah Posten Book Store and was a secretary for the State Highway Commission for thirty-four years. Lillian married George Bakken on June 17, 1967, he died in 1987. She married Norman Borseth on May 15, 1989 in Colorado. Lillian was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary and the First Lutheran Church, where she was a deaconess. She enjoyed flowers and gardening, crocheting, dancing, playing cards, traveling to Hawaii, taking day trips and walking. Lillian’s survivors include her husband: Norman Borseth, Decorah, IA. One step-daughter: Ann Borseth, Brooklyn Park, MN. One sister: Inez Viste, Decorah, IA. One sister-in-law: Arla Hirsch, Charles City, IA and one brother-in-law: Bob Clasen, New Hampton, IA, along with many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Lillian was preceded in death by her parents: Even and Ida Peterson. Her first husband: George Bakken in 1987. Three sisters: Ruth Amundson, Esther Stegen and Arlene Clasen. Two brothers: Alvin Peterson and Ove Peterson.
