Leverne Headington

Leverne Headington, age 94, of Decorah, IA, died on Monday, October 17, 2011, at the Barthell Eastern Star Home in Decorah, IA. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 20, 2011, at the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, 1316 Canoe Ridge Road, rural Decorah, IA, with Rev. Gene Hermeier presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-7:00 p.m., on Wednesday, Oct. 19, 2011, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, and also after 12:00 Noon on Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given in memory of Leverne to the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, 1316 Canoe Ridge Road, Decorah, IA 52101. Leverne Esther (Finholt) Headington was born on October 15, 1917, the daughter of Oscar and Julia (Faldet) Finholt near Decorah, IA. Leverne attended country school in the Canoe Ridge area and then attended Decorah Public Schools. Leverne married Hugh E. Headington on July 18, 1935, at Canoe Ridge. Together they raised their family in Decatur, IL, where her family was very important to her. She returned to Decorah in 1991, and enjoyed being with her siblings. Leverne enjoyed quilting; making a quilt for all her children, along with teddy bears for the grandchildren. She also enjoyed needlework. Leverne was a member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, where she was an active member. Leverne is survived by her two daughters: Muriel (George) Albers, Bella Vista, AR; and Julie (Richard) Schenherr, Lake of the Ozarks, MO. Four sons: Lee Headington, Port Washington, WI; Dennis (Louise) Headington, Lititz, PA; Frank (Barbara) Headington, Neenah, WI; and Thomas (Becky) Headington, Germantown Hills, IL, along with eighteen grandchildren and twenty-eight great grandchildren. Two sisters: Jenanne Vikre, Decorah, IA, and Eunice Anderson, Decorah, IA. Leverne was preceded in death by her parents: Oscar and Julia Finholt. Her husband: Hugh E. Headington in 1983. Two grandsons: Matthew Thomas Headington and Frank Carl Headington, Jr. Two sisters: Thelma (Lester) Keefe and Cora (William) Nesseth. Two brothers: Orlando (Ruth) Finholt and Chester (Barbara) Finholt. Two brothers-in-law: Terry Vikre and Marvin Anderson.
