Leo Berg, age 88, of Decorah, IA, died on Saturday, May 19, 2018, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, IA. Funeral Services will be Friday, May 25, 2018, at 1:30 p.m., at the Frankville Presbyterian Church, 1130 Frankville Rd., Frankville, IA, with Rev. Gary Catterson presiding. Burial will be in the Frankville Cemetery, Frankville, IA.Visitation will be held on Thursday, May 24, from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. at Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah, IA and also after 12:30 p.m., at the church on Friday. The Schluter Balik Funeral Home is handling arrangements.Leo Alfred Berg was born March 4, 1930 to Alfred and Olga (Hanson) Berg in Frankville Township, Allamakee County.  He received his education in the Little Red School near Forest Mills, IA in Allamakee County. Leo was baptized in the Forest Mills Church by the Reverend L.E. Crippen.  On June 30, 1951 Leo married Jean Shirley Klepper at the Salem Reformed Church in Ludlow Township, Waukon, IA. To this union, two sons were born, Clinton and Cletus.  In 1951 he was drafted into the army and was stationed in Korea on the front lines in the 3rd Armored Division as a tank driver. When he returned, he worked road construction all his life, most years with Holland Bros. Construction of Decorah and also Reilly Construction of Ossian, IA, retiring in 1995.  Leo was a member of the first Frankville fire department, and a member of the Frankville Presbyterian Church. He and Jean took part in many church activities and helped with the big remodeling project of the kitchen at the church.One of Leo’s favorite sayings when asked “Leo, how are you,” was “Well, if I was any better, I would have to take a pill!”Leo is survived by his wife of 66 years, Jean (Klepper) Berg. Two sons: Clinton (Marty) Berg, Decorah, IA and Cletus Berg, Vacaville, CA. Four grandchildren: Teri (Jay) Dankert of Eldridge, IA; Tricia (Dan) Fisher of Sherrard, IL; Kyle Berg of Minneapolis, MN; Jeannie (Nick) Hardin of Vacaville CA. Three great grandchildren: Zach Johnson, Ty Fears, Brayden Hardin. Five step-great grandchildren: Drew, Dalton and Devon Dankert, and Trever and Race Fisher. Sisters-in-law Karen Schnuelle and Ardis Klepper along with many nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents: Alfred and Olga (Hanson) Berg. Brother: Orlan (Bonnie) Berg. Brother: Stanley (Delores) Berg. Brothers-in-law: Harlan (Marilyn) Klepper, Curt Klepper and Donald Schnuelle.
