Lavonne Kupka

Lavonne Kupka, age 89, of Cresco, IA died Friday September 5, 2014 at the Cresco Care Center in Cresco Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. Tuesday September 9, 2014 at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville with Rev Donald Hawes presiding. Burial will be in the Haug Cemetery west of Spillville. Visitation will be after 10:00 a.m. Tuesday at the church only. Lavonne Mae (Frey) Kupka was born on May 29, 1925, the daughter of David and Emma (Swehla) Frey near Spillville, Iowa. Lavonne attended rural country school, graduated from eighth grade and then helped on the family farm. Lavonne married Ervin Kupka October 4, 1943, at the St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in Spillville, IA, together they farmed near Cresco. Lavonne also worked as a nurses aid and as a cook at Evans Nursing Home. She was also a cook at Assumption School in Cresco. Lavonne enjoyed working in her garden and her flowers. Lavonne is survived by her children: David (Betty) Kupka, Waukon, IA, Sandra Andrus, Cresco, IA, Darwin (Jacqueline) Kupka, Decorah, IA and Dean (Rhonda) Kupka, Cresco, IA. Six grandchildren: John Andrus, Suzanne Hyke, Debra Turner and Dawn Iverson, Justin and Jaimisen Kupka. Six great grandchildren: Andrew, Rachel, Jacob and Isaiah Hyke, Derrick and Kacee Barron. Lavonne was preceded in death by her parents: David and Emma (Swehla) Frey. Her husband: Ervin on Dec. 29, 1999. Two sisters: Alice (Harlan) Fjelstul and Dorothy (Vern) Ellickson. Two brothers: Lester (Madeline) Frey and Raymond Frey in infancy.
