Lavene Roberts

LaVene Roberts, age 62, of Decorah, Iowa died on Friday, September 2, 2005 at the Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah, Iowa following a long illness. A Memorial Mass will be held on Saturday, September 10, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church, 307 West Main Street, Decorah, Iowa with Rev. Gary Krapfl officiating. Burial will be in the St. Benedict’s Catholic Cemetery at a later date. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah is in charge of arrangements. LaVene donated her body for Research at Mayo Hospital in Rochester, MN. Friends may call from after 9:00 a.m. at the church on Saturday morning. Memorials may be made to the LaVene Roberts Memorial fund. LaVene Marie (Hoppe) Roberts was born on January 1, 1943 the daughter of Kermit and Ellen (Halweg) Hoppe in Cresco, Iowa. LaVene graduated from Cresco High School in 1961. She married Wayne Roberts on December 1, 1962 at Assumption Catholic Church in Cresco, Iowa. LaVene worked at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home as the Activities Director, as a receptionist for Dr. A.B. Ludeking and as a Certified Nurses Aid at the Oneota Riverview Care Facility. LaVene was a member of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and St. Mark’s Circle. LaVene’s survivors include her husband, Wayne Roberts, Decorah, IA; one son: Dennis (Susy) Roberts, Rosemount, MN; one daughter: Benita (Kevin) Schemionek, Farmington, MN; Five grandchildren: Danielle & Jessica Moore and Dylan, Kylie & Zoey Roberts. Two brothers: Earl (Joan) Hoppe, Lime Springs, IA and Eugene (Linda) Hoppe, St. Paul, MN; Two sisters: Lorrine (Roger) Wentworth, Cresco, IA and LaVonne (Kenneth) Fishell, Orlando, FL. Several nieces and nephews. LaVene enjoyed golfing and playing cards, but most of all, she loved her family. LaVene was preceded in death by her parents and one sister: Rita Hoppe on Sept. 29, 2003.
