Laura M. Numedahl

Laura Numedahl, age 93, of Calmar, Iowa, died Thursday, August 7, 2008, at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA, after a long illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, August 12, 2008, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, IA, by Rev. Donald Hawes. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Monday and also from 9:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday morning at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, 202 South Washington Street, in Calmar, IA. There will be a rosary at 5:00 p.m. on Monday evening. Memorials may be given in memory of Laura to the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, Iowa. Laura Mary (Huber) Numedahl was born to William and Susan (Demuth) Huber on the family farm near Festina, IA. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in Festina, and worked for area families that needed help. Laura married Lester Numedahl on February 28, 1938, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church in Calmar, IA. Laura was the custodian at the Red Vest Hotel and at St. Aloysius Catholic School in Calmar, IA, for many years. Laura enjoyed baking and playing cards. Her greatest joy was to be with her family and she dearly loved her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Laura’s survivors include her two daughters: Susan (Dick) Leibold Ossian, IA and Sandra Numedahl, Taos, N.M. Two sons: Dick (Lela) Numedahl, Decorah, IA and Roger Numedahl, Decorah, IA. One daughter-in-law: Patti (Frank) Graves, Decorah, IA. One sister: Joan (Don) Howland, Rochester, MN. Fourteen grandchildren: Lesli Leibold, Robert Leibold and Dan (Brenda) Leibold, Lynn (Mark) Imoehl, Gwen Michels, Michael (Brandi) Numedahl, Emily Numedahl, Pete (Tessa) Numedahl, Paul (Amy) Numedahl, Perry (Jennifer) Numedahl, Rae Ann (Earl) Arneson, Randee Numedahl, Jim (Dawn) Leibold, Jon Leibold. Twenty four great-grandchildren. One brother–in-law: Gerry Bucheit, Calmar, IA. Three sisters-in-law: Ruth Huber, Bakersfield, CA, Mary Lou Huber, San Jose, CA and Gloria Huber, Savanna, IL. Laura was preceded in death by her parents: her husband, Lester in 1985; Two sons: Lester in infancy and James Numedahl in 1998. Three sisters: Helen (John) Bushman, Margaret (Louis) Elpert and Mary Bucheit. Four brothers: Linus, Joe, Francis and Paul (Marjorie) Huber.
