Larry Martinson

Larry Martinson, age 80, of Decorah, Iowa, passed away Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, Iowa.

Celebration of Life will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 11, 2025 , at The Elks Lodge, 105 River Street, Decorah, IA. Larry's family will be holding a private burial.

In lieu of flowers, memorials and donations can be sent to the family at 403 Twin View Drive, Decorah, Iowa 52101.

He was welcomed into the world on May 29, 1945, in Jefferson, Iowa.  Larry was a devoted husband, father, and friend.  He lived a life marked by love, integrity, and dedication to his family.

Throughout his life, Larry was an AVID Iowa Hawkeyes fan and enjoyed spending time fishing, checking out different casinos, and cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs.  He loved cheering Adam on at his races and spending time on the beach with Dan out in North Carolina.  On the weekends you could find Larry and Martha playing cards with friends and family.  Larry worked for the City of Decorah for over 20 years with the Street Department.

He is survived by his wife, Martha Martinson, of 52 years, and his two sons, Adam Martinson (Andrea Ellefson) of River Falls, WI and Dan Martinson of Wilmington, North Carolina, who will forever cherish his guidance, humor, and unconditional support.  He is also survived by brothers Lynn Martinson (Mary Faith); Eric Martinson; sister-in-laws Susanne (Bill) Gerard; Marian Henry; along with many nieces and nephews.

Larry was proceeded in death by his parents Mary and Harold Martinson; parents in-law Mary and James Henry; brother in-laws Noel Henry and Joseph Henry; sister in-laws Donna Henry and Sheryl Martinson.

The family would like to thank the Aase Haugen staff and WinnMed Hospice for their loving care.

Larry’s legacy of love and devotion will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
