L. June Rucker died at her home in Senoia, Georgia, on Tuesday, June 28, 2011 at the age of 79. She was formerly of Waukon and Decorah, Iowa. Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, July 25, 2011 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah with Rev. Michael Carey officiating. Inurnment will be in Phelps Cemetery in Decorah. Visitation will be from 3:00 P.M. to 6:00 P.M. on Sunday, July 24, 2011, at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Monday one hour before the service at the church. Lois June (Triggs) Rucker, known by her middle name, June, was born June 16, 1932 in Martinsburg, West Virginia. She was the daughter of Charles Bates Triggs and Clara Isabelle Butts. June’s parents died when she was 8 years old and she was raised in an orphanage in Jefferson County, West Virginia, called The Haven. She graduated from Shepherd College with a degree in teaching. She taught school one year in Summit Point, West Virginia; one year in Dubuque, Iowa; and thirty two years as a second grade teacher in Waukon, Iowa. While living in Waukon, she also taught Sunday school in the Methodist and Lutheran churches. June was married twice. She married her first husband, Robert Strong, April 15, 1957, in Dubuque, Iowa. Mr. Strong passed away on May 21, 1995, in Waukon. June married her second husband, Robert Z. Rucker, on February 14, 2000, in Decorah, Iowa. June enjoyed traveling. She and Robert Rucker often took trips, visiting the East Coast to the West Coast. In April, 2009, June and her husband moved to Senoia, Georgia, to live with their daughter. June is survived by her husband, Robert Rucker; her two sisters: Nancy Billmeyer and her husband Jacques Bilmeyer of Winchester, Virginia and Mary Dahbura and her husband Abby Dahbura of Hagertown, Maryland; her three step-children: Kenneth Rucker of LeRoy, Minnesota and his ex-wife Yvette Rucker of Rochester, Minnesota, Russell Rucker and his wife Elena Rucker of Orfordville, Wisconsin, and L. Jill Rennie and her husband Jonathan Rennie of Senoia, Georgia; by ten step-grandchildren: Benjamin Rucker, Sarah Rucker, Andrew Rucker, Rebecca Rucker, Natasha Grandhi, Jaykumar Grandhi, Dylan Corrales, Zabrina Corrales, Alexander Rucker and Nicholas Rucker; and three step great-grandchildren: Sakura Rucker, Mizuki Rucker, and Reina Rucker. She is preceded in death by her parents; her first husband; three brothers: Garnet Triggs, Glenn Triggs and Norman Triggs; and one sister Rebekah Brietbeck.
