Kyran "Kyke" Lutkenhaus, age 89, of Calmar, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, at Ossian Care Center in Ossian, Iowa.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, August 25, 2026, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 S Maryville St, Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Tyler Raymond presiding. A private burial will take place in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, 304 S Maryville St, Calmar, Iowa. The Scripture service will start at 3:30 p.m.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be given to the family. A donation will be made in Kyke's memory.

Kyran (Kyke) Lutkenhaus passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wed, August 18th, 2026 at Ossian Care Center where he was a resident for almost 4 years after several falls.

Kyran Gregory Lutkenhaus was born on Dec 20, 1936 to Emma (Wenthold) and Anton Lutkenhaus. He was the third of four siblings, Marge Doser, Leosa Meyer and Rosalyn Martin. He was adored by his sisters, to which they called him “Little Brother” as he stood 6 feet tall.

He was called Kyke by all who knew him. Kyke attended school in Festina until his sophomore year where he then attended Calmar HS. He played basketball and baseball. At a young age (18) his father died and he took over his dads Milk Hauling business doing Milk cans for many years, then transitioned to a bulk tank and cans and then finally pumping milk into a bulk tank. Kyke took care of his customers even on terrible weather days.

Kyke was united to Beverly Bruess in 1958, to which they had three children, Nancy Wulfekuhle (Tim) in Fayette, Kevin Lutkenhaus, (Beth) in Florida and Brian Lutkenhaus, (Carol) in Decorah. Most of Kykes life he worked very long days, all holidays too. He still had time after a long day to play baseball in the backyard.

He semi-retired and sold his business in his middle 50’s but continued driving for a few years. Kyke was an avid golfer, enjoying his Thursday Men’s night which he referred to as “Holy Thursday and he never missed or was late, his faithful 4 some with Norb Einck, Vince Bullerman and Bob Humpal. Playing cards with the guys was always accompanied by the golf game. Couples league was always on the agenda and was challenging, they had so much fun. Kyke was lucky enough to have two hole-in-ones.

Kyke upon retirement managed the South Winn Country Club, eventually just enjoyed mowing the course.

Kyke was a member of Our Lady of Seven Dolars Catholic Church and then when they moved to Calmar in ‘78, they became members of St. Aloysius. Kyke was an officer of the Catholic Order of Forresters, praying the Lenten rosary on the radio. Kyke had also served on the Calmar City Council.

Kyke enjoyed golf, he was a very handy woodworker, making presents and lots of oak pieces for his family that are priceless. Kyke enjoyed sports all his life, an avid ST Louis Cardinal fan; and an Iowa Hawkeye fan. He did get to visit all of the Cardinal Stadiums throughout his life. After retirement, he and Bev had some fun filled bus travels.

Kyke was a very social person; he always enjoyed conversing with young and old. He enjoyed all his customers, his neighbors, and he joked with the staff at the Ossian Care Center. He enjoyed music and had a good voice singing in Church or could be caught singing in his milk truck, in the house, or in his wood working shop.

He didn’t miss many of his children’s or grandchildren’s little league or HS games. He loved watching his grandson, Chad Kyran play basketball for Florida Gulf Coast, which he attended many Division 1 games, such as Kansas, Iowa, Michigan State and many more.

Kyke is survived by his loving wife Bev, his three children, his grandchildren, Zachary, (Clarissa) Davis (Kayla) and Alex Wulfekuhle, Andrea and Chad Lutkenhaus (Danielle) and Evan and Alea Lutkenhaus. So much of his life was filled with love and family and moments who made us all what we are. He has four great grandsons KYRAN, Cameron and loved his visits Seager and Karsten when Nancy brought them to visit.

Kyke joins his mom and dad, two sisters, brother in laws, sister in law, nephews and nieces and a couple of his golf partners now and some friends who have passed.
