Kirk Hageman, age 25, of North Liberty, Iowa, died on Tuesday, August 12, 2009, in North Liberty, Iowa, from a sudden illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, August 17, 2009, at St. Benedict’s Catholic Church in Decorah, Iowa, with Rev. Gary Krapfl presiding. Burial will be in the Hesper Public Cemetery, Hesper, Iowa. Friends may call on Sunday from 2:00-6:00 p.m. and on Monday morning from 8:00-10:00 a.m. at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah. Kirk Urban Hageman was born on October 28, 1983, the son of Mark and Rhonda (Casey) Hageman in Cresco, Iowa. Kirk attended and graduated from Decorah High School in 2002. While in school he was involved in wrestling, cross country and FFA. After high school he worked in landscaping in Wisconsin and recently with Scaffolding, Inc. in Cedar Rapids. Kirk enjoyed making an annual trip to Waterville, Minnesota and to Noah’s Ark with family. He always had a very creative side; designing clothing and t-shirts. Kirk loved children and loved chasing and playing with them at Great Grandma Elizabeth Hageman’s house at Christmas and at the Hesper 4th of July. For the last three years, Kirk fulfilled his passion by helping coach wrestling for the Cedar Rapids Prairie Hawks. Kirk loved tailgating and spending time with family and friends. Kirk’s survivors include his father: Mark Hageman (friend, Marilyn Headington), Decorah, IA and his mother: Rhonda Casey, Anchorage, Alaska. Two sisters: Chelsey Hageman, Bellingham, WA and Casey (Kyle Kohls) Hageman, Decorah, IA. Kirk's special friend: Kristin O’Meara, Des Moines, IA. His paternal grandmother: Joan Schissel, Decorah, Iowa. Five aunts: Jane (Randal)Brown, Ridgeway, IA; Cindy (Bob Potter) Hageman, DuPont, WA; Vickie (Rob) Kilgore, Ankeny, IA; Cathy (Allen) Halweg, Benton, WI and Corrine (Dan) McConnell, Stewartville, MN. Four uncles: Steve (Eileen) Hageman, Solon, IA; Kevin (Sabrina) Hageman, Lacey, WA; Mike (Cyndi) Hageman, Coggon, IA and James (Deana) Casey, Manly, IA, along with many cousins, friends and neighbors. Kirk was preceded in death by his two paternal grandfathers: Urban Hageman in 1965 and Lee Schissel in 2004. His maternal grandparents: Donald “Bud” Casey in 1996 and Kay Casey in 2004. Two close friends: Alan Fadness and Troy Folkedahl.
