Kenneth Jacob Meyer

Kenneth Jacob Meyer, age 94, formerly of Calmar, Iowa, passed away on November 19, 2005 at his home in Green Valley, Arizona. Memorial services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 29, 2006 at the Calmar Community Methodist Church in Calmar, Iowa with Rev. Anita Odekirk Bane officiating. Burial will be in the Calmar City Cemetery, Calmar, IA, with full military rites by the Halverson-Giesen American Legion Post # 266. There will be no visitation. Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel in Calmar, Iowa is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Meyer was born on October 3, 1911 in Mason City, Iowa, to Carl and Emma (Miller) Meyer. He graduated from Calmar High School in 1929 and attended the University of Iowa. He was associated with Calmar Manufacturing Co. for 50 years, retiring in on January 1, 1980 as President and C.E.O. Ken was married on July 15, 1936 to Loraine Carpenter. He was former mayor and councilman for Calmar, spent four years in the U. S. Army, during World War II, two years in Europe, discharged as a Captain. He was a member of the Elks, Masonic Lodge, the Methodist Church, Oneota Golf and Country Club, Desert Hills Golf Club, Shriners Scottish Rite and The American Legion. He married Katherine A. Michael, on October 6, 1979. Kenneth is survived by his wife, Katherine Meyer, Green Valley, AZ; son: Peter (Alma) Meyer, Calmar, IA; daughter: Nancy (Patrick) Condon, Gold River, CA; stepdaughter: Marjorie (Kenneth) Beech, Vancouver, WA. Sister-in-law: Mary Anderson, Gaithersburg, MD. Ten grandchildren: Beth (Tim) Gilmore, Austin, TX; Lori (Mark) Schneider, Sun Prairie, WI; Michael Condon, Madison, WI; Jill (Kent) Read, Sacramento, CA; Corey (Christi) Meyer, Calmar, IA; Amy (Eric) Thuente and Jennifer Meyer, all of Cedar Rapids, IA. Step-grandchildren: Kent Beech, Seattle, WA; Michelyn (Michael) Sabath, Chicago, IL and John Beech, Peace Corp in Jamaica. Nine great grandchildren: Patrick and Gregory Gilmore; Sarah, Amy, and Matthew Schneider; Aaron Condon; Carly Meyer; Aiden and Canden Sabath. Ken was preceded in death by his first wife, Loraine Meyer, two brothers: Howard and Don Meyer; two sisters: Esther Nieft and Dorothy Rogers; one stepson: Jim Michael. Memorials may be sent to the Calmar Community United Methodist Church, Calmar, Iowa.
