Kathryn T. Kroshus

Kathryn T. Kroshus, age 93, of Decorah, IA, died early Tuesday morning, January 29, 2013 at Winneshiek Medical Center in Decorah. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, February 2, 2013 at Big Canoe Lutheran Church in rural Decorah, with Rev. David H. Andreae officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation begins on Saturday at 10:00 A.M., one hour before services, at the church. Kathryn Thelma (Arneson) Kroshus was born December 25, 1919 on the home farm in Pleasant Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Martin and Nora (Grindeland) Arneson. She was baptized on January 25, 1920, confirmed on July 23, 1933, and a life-long member of Big Canoe Lutheran Church. Kathryn graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1936. She then was a teacher in the Sattre Country School #8. Kathryn was united in marriage to Jerome L. Kroshus on April 7, 1943 at Big Canoe Lutheran Church, rural Decorah. To this union, five children were born: Jerome, Joseph, Diane, Donna, Wanda and in 1953, the couple adopted a son, Kavin. She worked at Montgomery Ward, Pamida and Anundsen Publishing Co., then at Vanberia for many years. She was a very active member of Big Canoe Lutheran Church, enjoyed quilting, reading mysteries and later in life, listening to mystery audio books. Kathryn and Jerome also liked to travel. She has lived at the Barthell O.E.S. Home Arlin Falck Assisted Living in recent years. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Jerome on October 17, 2005; four sons and daughters in infancy, Jerome, Joseph, Diane and Donna Kroshus; a son, Kavin Michael Kroshus on October 18, 2000; and a brother, Norman Arneson. Kathryn is survived her daughter, Wanda (Stephen) Winger of Decorah; two grandchildren, Kaylee (Mark) Deegan of Redmond, Washington and Chad (Erica) Winger of Peoria, Illinois; two great-grandchildren, Karley and Alex Deegan; and three brothers: Paul (Bernice) Arneson, Ralph (Shirley) Arneson and Stanley (Margaret) Arneson, all of Decorah.
