Judith Mcintosh

Judith (Mrs. Howard) McIntosh, age 75, of Decorah, died on Thursday, July 17, 2014, at the Eastern Star Nursing Home in Decorah, IA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 21, 2014, at the First Lutheran Church, 604 West Broadway, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Chad Huebner presiding. Burial will be in the Phelps Cemetery, Decorah, IA. Visitation will be on Sunday, July 20, 2014 at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home in Decorah From 2:00 – 6:00 p.m. and after 10:00 a.m. Monday at the church. Judith Ann (Blegen) McIntosh was born on March 13, 1939, the daughter of Arthur and Vi (Wangsness) Blegen, in Decorah, IA. She was baptized April 2, 1939 and confirmed October 24, 1954 at First Lutheran. She attended Decorah Schools. On October 16, 1955 she married Howard McIntosh at the First Lutheran Church in Decorah. Together they had four children, Norman, Vicky, Debra and John, whom all still live in Decorah. She worked at Deco for two years when they first opened in Decorah. After that she was a homemaker for many years until the youngest son, John, went to school. She then went to work for Decorah Public Schools in the food service department, where she stayed for 30 years until retiring. After retiring, she volunteered at the Hospital Auxiliary, Wellington Place and was a quilt-maker at First Lutheran Church. Judith’s hobbies included camping, flower gardening, knitting and crocheting. She crocheted hundreds of new born baby hats for the hospital over the years. She also enjoyed collecting Aladdin Lamps, watching hummingbirds and going to auctions and garage sales, “she was always hunting for that bargain”. Most of all Judith loved spending time with her family and friends. Judith is survived by her husband: Howard, Decorah, IA. Four children: Norman McIntosh, Vicky Borseth (friend Dave Ohlert), Deb (Rusty) Hagensick and John McIntosh all of Decorah, IA. Seven grandchildren: Darcie (Joe) Hurst, Rochester, MN, Russell (Elisheva) Abbott, Jerusalem, Israel, Darren Borseth, Decorah, IA, Rob Abbott, Castalia, IA, Amy Borseth, Minneapolis, MN, Tyler McIntosh, Iowa City, IA and Martina McIntosh, Cresco, IA. Five great grand-children: Levi, Liat, Maiah, Gideon Abbott and Emmett Hurst. Two brothers: Donnie (Carol) Blegen and Doug (Rosie) Blegen both of Decorah, IA. Two sisters-in-law: Judy (Jerry) Nagel and Judy McIntosh, Decorah, IA. Three Aunts: Elva Roney, Rochester, MN, Lorraine Wangsness, Decorah, IA and Olga Wangsness, Decorah, IA. Along with many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents: Arthur and Vi Blegen. Father and Mother-in-law: Chester and Grace McIntosh. Brother-in-law: Duane McIntosh.
