Joyce Koffron

April 9, 1941 — June 25, 2025

Joyce Koffron, age 84, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend of Decorah, IA, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, at her home, surrounded by family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 30, 2025, at St. Benedict Catholic Church with Rev. Daniel Knipper presiding. Burial will be in St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Lisbon, IA.

Visitation will be from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, 2025, at Helms Funeral Home, 306 E Water St., Decorah, IA. There will be no visitation prior to the service at church on Monday.

Born on April 9, 1941, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to LaVonne and George Trpkosh, Sr., Joyce was raised in Worthington Acres and graduated from Prairie High School in Cedar Rapids.

On June 25, 1960, she married the love of her life, Arthur L. Koffron, at St. Wenceslaus Church in Cedar Rapids. Together, they built a life rooted in love, faith, and family. Their journey took them from Mt. Vernon to the Ossian / Decorah area, where they continued to nurture their growing family and community ties.

Though she held various jobs throughout her life, Joyce always considered her most important role to be that of a homemaker and devoted mother. Her life was a testament to selflessness, compassion, and unwavering love.

She found joy in her involvement with Questers, the Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA), and most recently, her cherished small prayer group, whose members became dear friends and a source of spiritual strength.

Joyce is survived by her children: Debbie Koffron, David (Lynette) Koffron, Jodi (Michael) Hartz, Bruce (Kristi) Koffron, Joel (Jennifer) Koffron, Katarina Koffron.  Joyce also enjoyed her amazing grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents: (George & LaVonne Trpkosh), her sister: (Cleta Kay), brother: (George Jr.,) her husband of nearly 50 years (Arthur in 2009), and four of their children: Randy, Francis, Joseph, and Samuel.

A memorial fund has been established in Joyce’s name to honor her legacy of giving and service. The family extends heartfelt thanks for the outpouring of sympathy, friendship, and support during this time.

Joyce’s life was a beautiful example of grace, generosity, and enduring faith. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
