Joyce Farina

Joyce Farina, age 79 of Decorah, formerly of Sumner, IA., died Wednesday June 18, 2014 at the Aase Haugen Home in Decorah, IA. Memorial services to be held Wednesday July 16, 2014 at 10:30AM at Immaculate Conception Parish in Sumner, IA. Joyce Ann (Meighan) Farina was born November 15, 1934 to Leonard and Catherine (Miller) Meighan at her Grandmother’s house in Waucoma, IA. Joyce attended country school and graduated from Sumner High School in 1953. After graduation, she moved to Milwaukee, WI. and was later joined by sisters Mary, Margaret and Kathleen. Joyce married William Farina and moved to Waukegan, IL. From there moved to many states and eventually settled in Maynard, IA. in 1971. After children grew and moved on, she moved to Sumner to be near mother and assist in her care. After many health concerns, she moved to Decorah, IA. to live with daughter Patricia in 2011, then two years later moved to Aase Haugen Home. Joyce loved holiday baking and making candies. She enjoyed hunting treasure may it be metal detecting or in courthouse basements researching genealogy. She also made a trip to Ireland with sisters and had many trips to Martha’s Vineyard, MA. to visit daughter Connie, where she loved watching sunsets at Menemsha. She was an adventurous person even with partial blindness in later life. Joyce is survived by three daughters: Debra (Mike) Snyder, Sumner, IA., Connie (Richard) Andrade, Edgartown, MA. and Patricia Langreck, Decorah IA. One son: William Farina, Victor, ID. Four grandchildren: Corey (Amanda) Sabin, Decorah, IA., Tony Sabin, Decorah, IA., Samantha Snyder, Sidney, NE. and Kassi (Danny) Lohmann, Sumner, IA. Four great grandchildren: Chloe and Dak Sabin, Jaci and Catherine Lohmann. Five sisters: Mary Stanfield, New Berlin, WI., Kathleen (Tom) Larkin, Oshkosh, WI., Susan Howard, Maynard, IA., Patricia (Terry) Beaman, Sumner, IA. And Betty (Ed) Young, Waterville, IA. One brother: David (Betty) Meighan, Sumner, IA. One brother-in-law: Dan Long, FL. Joyce is preceded in death by parents: Leonard and Catherine (Miller) Meighan. Two brothers: Thomas Meighan and Richard Meighan. One sister: Margaret Long. Two brothers-in-law: Carl Stanfield and Dick Howard. Two sisters-in-law: Grace Meighan and Glenda Meighan. One son-in-law: Ivan Langreck. Two nephews: David Larkin and John Larkin. One niece: Angela Foster.
