Born on March 13, 1987, in Greeley, Colorado, Josh blossomed into a remarkable individual whose spirit resonated deeply within his community.
Josh was a dedicated professional who held the esteemed position of Business Development Projects Director at the Northeast Iowa Resource Conservation and Development, where he showcased his talent for uplifting local non-profits through grant writing and championing initiatives tied to the local food market. His commitment to fostering agricultural awareness was evident in his appointment to the Local Food and Farm Program Advisory Council by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship.
A proud alumnus of Decorah High School, graduating in 2005, Josh was not only an excellent student but also a passionate athletic participant involved in the soccer and basketball teams. His journey continued at Luther College, where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Management in 2009. There, he became a pivotal member of the Luther Ultimate Frisbee team and had the enriching experience of studying abroad in both Norway and South Africa.
Beyond his academic and professional accolades, Josh was cherished for his character and warmth. He embodied the essence of a classic Midwestern gentleman—always smiling, welcoming, and ready to lend a helping hand. His love for his family was boundless, with unwavering affection for his wife Emily and tender devotion to their children, Aurora and Arlo. The joyful sounds of playing with his children often filled their home, exemplifying the love and happiness he nurtured day in and day out.
Josh's interests spanned a wide range, from being an avid sports fan who passionately supported his teams—the Denver Broncos, Iowa Hawkeyes, and Newcastle United F.C.—to enjoying video games with his dearest friends, camping excursions, hiking trails, fossil hunting, and kayaking adventures. His enthusiasm for life extended beyond mere hobbies; it reflected his deep appreciation for the great outdoors and the wonder of shared experiences.
His proudest accomplishments are etched in the heart of Decorah, including serving as board president for the Decorah Farmer's Market, his contributions on the board for Sunflower Childcare Center, and his hands-on efforts as a parent volunteer for Decorah Park and Recreation. Additionally, Josh participated in the Upper Iowa River Clean-Up, demonstrating his unwavering commitment to preserving the natural beauty of his surroundings.
Josh leaves behind a tapestry of love and support from his surviving family members including his beloved wife, Emily, his devoted children, Aurora and Arlo, his father Joel Dansdill and partner Pam McLean, his mother Janet Uhlenhake and spouse Gene, his brother Jared Dansdill, his sister Jill Dansdill, his maternal grandmother Belva Fadness, his paternal grandfather George Dansdill, and his partner Sharla Janashek. He also leaves behind a whole host of aunts, uncles, cousins, and a cherished nephew, Henry.
