Joseph "Joe" Miller

Joseph “Joe” Miller, age 67, of rural West Union, IA, died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, June 13, 2018.Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m., until 7:00 p.m. on Monday, June 18, 2018 at the Schluter-Balik Funeral Home, French Chapel, 202 South Washington street, in Calmar, IA. There will be a memorial service at 7:00 p.m.Joseph Thomas Miller was born on March 13, 1951, the son of William Van and Devine (Furrow) Miller in Maquoketa, Iowa. He attended Catholic school in West Union and North High in West Union, later earning his GED. Joe was the owner of Miller Burial Vaults in West Union for many years. He married Vicki Leiran in 1971 and together they had three children: Jereme, Josh and Cayla. They later divorced. In 1994 Joe married Cheri Cooley and they later divorced. Joe drove for SMX trucking out of Fort Dodge for many years and recently for D&J Trucking. He married Alice (Hageman) Murray in 2010. Joe enjoyed mushroom hunting, metal detecting, road cruises, Nascar, the Green Bay Packers, cooking, counted cross stitch, gardening, spending time with family and having a drink with friends. He loved to joke and enjoyed traveling the countryside in his eighteen-wheeler.Joe is survived by his wife: Alice. Children: Jereme (Shanda) Miller, West Union, IA; Josh (Amber) Miller, Bondurant, IA; Cayla (Jon Rose) Miller, Elgin, IA; Mitch (Meagan) Murray, Lawler, IA; Kyle (Tonya) Murray, Waucoma, IA and Jeremy (Rachel) Murray and their dog “Kreacher”, Chicago, Ill. Grandchildren: Tristan, Carissa and Aliya Miller; Eleanor Miller; Kylee Lutgen; Lelia and Waylon Martin; Ashlyn and Alex Murray; Addison, Carver and Dillan Murray. Mother-in-law: Irma Hageman, Lawler, IA. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Robert “Tex” Hageman, Lime Springs, IA; Kathy (Doug) Ball, Waucoma, IA; Karen (Keith) Weiss, Madison, WI; Jolene (Joe) Rosenbaum, Waucoma, IA; Mark (Carol) Hageman, New Hampton, IA; Laurie (Doug) Hanson, Decorah, IA; Sylvia (Jeff) Schluetter, New Hampton, IA and Gladys (Randy) Schluetter, New Hampton, IA along with many nieces and nephews and good friends and his dogs, Mya, Penny and Coco.Joe was preceded in death by his parents: William Van and Devine (Furrow) Miller.
