Jon D. Horsfall, age 46, of Ossian, Iowa, died Tuesday, September 25, 2007 at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah of complications from multiple sclerosis. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 29, 2007 at First United Methodist Church in Decorah by Rev. Carol A. Kress. Visitation is on Friday, September 28, 2009 from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Saturday after 10:00 A.M. at the Church. Jon David Horsfall was born November 20, 1960 in Decorah, Iowa, the son of Paul and Maxine (Schwartz) Horsfall, Sr. He graduated from Decorah High School with the class of 1979. He was united in marriage to Sandra (Schroeder) Kapell on April 7, 1995 at The Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Jon worked at Anthony’s Department Store in Decorah and then he owned and operated Horsfall’s Variety Store in Ossian for several years. He then worked at Featherlite Inc in Cresco until 2004 when he was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. Jon liked to race go-karts and was treasurer of the Northeast Iowa Go-Kart Association. He also enjoyed NASCAR racing, the Iowa Hawkeyes, Green Bay Packers and he was a fan of college football. He loved being on the Mississippi River and boating there. He liked to fish and especially valued time with his family and friends. Jon was also a member of the First United Methodist Church in Decorah. Jon became a resident of the Aase Haugen Home April 18, 2006. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Roy and Pearl Horsfall; his maternal grandfather, Louis Schwartz; and a brother-in-law, Michael Schroeder. He is survived by his wife, Sandra of Ossian; one son, Ben (Amanda) Horsfall of Decorah; two daughters, Mallory Horsfall of Cedar Falls and Jenny Foltz of West Union; one step-daughter, Sheila Kapell of Denver, CO; five grandchildren: Riely, Dylan, Cristal, Kassidy, Cameron; his parents, Paul and Maxine Horsfall, Sr. of Lansing, IA; one brother, Paul (Dorothea) Horsfall, Jr. of Waukon; father-in-law, Leonard Schroeder of Ossian; mother-in-law, Ramona Schroeder of Ossian; maternal grandmother, Oladean Jarrett of Prairie du Chien, WI; three brothers-in-law: Mark Schroeder of Ossian, Jess (Lori) Schroeder of Fort Atkinson, and Tim Schroeder of Houston, TX; and three sisters-in-law: Lynda (Phillip) Wilkerson of Leitchfield, KY, Jenny (Dale) Leuenberger of Fort Atkinson, and Zettalee (Jacob) Gowen of Salida, CO.
