Joanne Roney

Joanne Roney, (Mrs. Robert) age 81, of Decorah, IA, died on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Gundersen Health Systems in LaCrosse, WI. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Wednesday, January 4, 2017, at the Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago Street, Decorah, IA, with Rev. Dave Sorenson presiding and Rev. Charis Combs-Lay presiding. Burial will be in the Burr Oak Cemetery, Burr Oak, Iowa, at a later date. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, 604 South Avenue, Decorah and after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Wednesday morning.Joanne Jeannette Kimber was born on December 6, 1935, the daughter of William and Nettie (Falck) Kimber, in Fillmore County, Minnesota. Joanne attended country school near Burr Oak and graduated from Decorah High School in 1955. Joanne was united in marriage to Robert “Bob” Roney on September 10, 1955, in Winona County, Minnesota. She worked for a short time at Wapsie Produce, but ended up staying at home to raise her children. Joanne enjoyed fishing, camping, polka music, embroidering and visiting with her family. She especially enjoyed and loved her family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joanne was a member of the Decorah Lutheran Church. Joanne’s survivors include her seven children: William “Bill” (Patricia) Roney, Decorah, IA; David (Mary) Roney, Frankville, IA; Daryl (Wendy) Roney, Decorah, IA; Jeff (Doreen) Roney, Decorah, IA; Vicki (Robert) Kelly, Decorah, IA; Dan Roney, Decorah, IA and Mike (Lisa) Roney, Decorah, IA. Twenty-three grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren. Joanne’s sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Jeanette (Gordon) Harms, Sioux Falls, SD; Donald (Arlene) Roney, Fort Collins, CO; Arlin (Pat) Roney, Moncks Corner, SC; Duane (Linda) Roney, Charles City, IA; Dale (Dawn) Roney, Waukon, IA; and Trudy Barrett, Fort Collins, CO, along with many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Bob’s three aunts: Margaret “Peggy” Wikan, Waukon, IA; Audrey Smock, San Diego, CA and Ardis Klotzbach, Decorah, IA. Joanne was preceded in death by her parents: William and Nettie Kimber. Her husband: Robert “Bob” Roney on Nov. 13, 2007. Her grandson: Robert Roney on May 26, 2015. Brother: Merlin Kimber. Two sisters: Phyllis (Robert) Martin and Vivian (Robert) Broghammer. Father-in-law and mother-in-law: Ralph and Angeline Roney. Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Ruth (Jim) Farley, Elaine (Dick) Kessler, John Barrett and Bernard Gacke.
