Joann L. Hanson

JoAnn L. Hanson, age 52, of Decorah, IA, died Monday, December 5, 2011 at her home in Decorah. Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 10, 2011 at Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah with Rev. Bryan Robertson officiating. Burial will be in Canoe Ridge Cemetery in rural Decorah. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Friday, December 9 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Saturday after 12:30 P.M. at the church. JoAnn Lynn (Drievold) Hanson was born April 21, 1959 in Decorah, IA, the daughter of Emmett Odell and Dorothy Mae (Coonradt) Drievold. Joann attended Decorah Schools and furthered her education at NICC in Calmar graduating as a Registered Nurse. She worked as an RN at the Ossian Senior Hospice in Ossian, IA and at Northgate Care Center in Waukon, IA. In Joann’s younger years she loved going to the river and canoeing with her children and friends, she especially enjoyed spending time with her mother. Later in life when her health prevented her from doing outdoor activities, Joann had many favorite TV shows and especially enjoyed reading books. JoAnn is survived by her son, Josh (Crystal) Engstrom and their children Jaxen Joshua and Ella Ray of Renwick, IA; one brother, David (Mary) Drievold of Decorah; two sisters: Audrey (Robert) Pierce of Washington, IA and Cindy (Bill) Bakken of Denver, IA; three aunts: Alice (Gene) Bequeaith of Davenport, IA, Sharon Folkedahl of Decorah and Jerrine (Karl) Jacobsen of Decorah; and by several cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by two children, Callie Jo Drievold and Cole Hanson on January 24, 1990; her father Emmett on December 8, 2003; her mother Dorothy on October 1, 2007; and her step-father Clifford A. “Kip” Johnson on June 5, 2008.
