Joan Fisher, age 86, of Decorah, IA, passed away Tuesday, December 23, 2025, at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota, surrounded by family.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 27, 2025, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 207 Church St., Spillville, Iowa, with Rev. Henry Huber presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday morning at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may go to WinnMed Hospice. WinnMed Hospice made a great impact on Joan’s life as they provided exceptional care to her husband, Jimmy.
Joan was born November 2, 1939, in Howard County, the daughter of Ed and Viola (Reinhardt) Reicks. Joan grew up in Cresco with her 5 siblings: Eugene, Robert, Donald, Sharon, and Keith.
Joan attended St. Joseph Catholic School in Cresco, IA.
On November 29, 1958, she married Jimmy Fisher at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cresco, IA. They made their home on a farm near Spillville, Iowa. In 1959, their daughter Brenda was born, and in 1962, their daughter Beverly was born.
Joan worked alongside her husband on their family farm. Together they farmed for 62 years. They had dairy cows, hogs, and later beef cattle. Joan’s hobbies included bowling on Monday afternoons, gardening, and baking kolaches.
Joan was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church and St. Wenceslaus Ladies Guild.
Joan is survived by her daughter Brenda (Steve) Finholt of Decorah, and her daughter Beverly (Steve) Panos of Spillville.
Grandchildren: Michelle (Adam) Jacobsen, Amy (Forry) Averhoff, Jason (Jackie Gesing) Panos, Jessica (Jason) Engen, and Jennifer (Evan) Wendt.
Great grandchildren: Callie (Weston) Fantz, Easton (Kaitlin) Halverson, Peyton (Baylee) Halverson, Lexi (Riley) Foote, Cade Averhoff, Rylee Averhoff, Henley Panos, Ethan Engen, Ally Engen, Isaac Engen, and Nolan Wendt. Her brother and sister-in-law Keith and Naydene Reicks, her sister Sharon Gossman, sister-in-law Margaret Reicks, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy, in August of 2025, her parents, father and mother-in-law; Arthur and Mary B. (Vachta) Fisher, brothers and sisters-in-law; Eugene Reicks, Robert and Grace Reicks, Donald and Cheryl Reicks, brother-in-law Carroll Gossman, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law; Mildred and Joseph Pecinovsky, Ralph and Delores Pecinovsky, Alton and Dorothy Vrba, and Elaine and Myles Rommes.
