Jimmy Fisher, age 87, of Decorah, IA, passed away Saturday, August 23, 2025, at his home surrounded by family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, August 27, 2025, at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, 207 Church St., Spillville, Iowa, with Rev. Henry Huber presiding. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. until the time of the service on Wednesday morning at the church.

In Lieu of flowers, memorials can go to WinnMed Hospice.

Jimmy was born September 1, 1937, in Spillville, Iowa, the son of Arthur and Mary B. (Vachta) Fisher. Jimmy grew up in Spillville with his 5 sisters: Mildred, Delores, Dorothy, Elaine, and Peggy.

He joined the U.S. Army in 1955 at the age of 17 years old and went to basic training at Camp Chafee in Arkansas. After basic training, he moved to Fort McClellan in Alabama, then to Fort Polk in Louisiana. Later, he moved back to Alabama and was released from the service after his 2-year term.

On November 29, 1958, he married Joan Reicks at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cresco, IA. They made their home on a farm near Spillville, Iowa. In 1959, their daughter Brenda was born, and in 1962, their daughter Beverly was born.

Jimmy farmed for 62 years on the same farm that was previously owned by his uncle. He had dairy cows, hogs, and later beef cattle. Jimmy’s hobbies included fishing and hunting.

Jimmy was a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic church and Spillville American Legion Post 467.

Jimmy is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan Fisher, his daughter Brenda (Steve) Finholt of Decorah, and his daughter Beverly (Steve) Panos of Spillville.

Grandchildren: Michelle (Adam) Jacobsen, Amy (Forry) Averhoff, Jason (Jackie Gesing) Panos, Jessica (Jason) Engen, and Jennifer (Evan) Wendt.

Great grandchildren: Callie, Easton, Peyton, Lexi, Cade, Rylee, Henley, Ethan, Ally, Isaac, Nolan. His sister Margaret Reicks.

He was preceded in death by his parents, father and mother-in-law; Edward and Viola Reicks, brothers-in-law, sisters;  Mildred and Joe Pecinovsky, Delores and Ralph Pecinovsky, Dorothy and Alton Vrba, Elaine and Myles Rommes, and Gene Reicks.

The family would like to thank the WinnMed Hospice team, especially Nurse Jen, for their  compassionate care for Jimmy.
