Jim Perry, age 85, of Fort Atkinson, Iowa, died on Sunday, October 13, 2013, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Marvin Salz presiding. Burial will be in St. Luke’s Catholic Cemetery, St. Lucas, Iowa. Friends may call from 9:00- 10:30 a.m., on Tuesday, October 22, 2013, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church. Victor Louis “Jim” Perry, Jr. was born on September 3, 1928, the son of Victor and Teresa (Mihm) Perry, Sr., in St. Lucas, Iowa. Jim attended St. Luke’s Catholic School in St. Lucas. He then served in the US Army from 1951-53. He returned and worked for the Blong Market in St. Lucas, later owning and operating it for several years. He also grilled hamburgers for Mark Mihm at the White House, he also cook at Club Iowa in Charles City; the Alpa Tap; Raleigh Hills Golf Course; the Valhalla and Brick City in Clermont. Jim was known for the “Jimmy Burger” and was also an excellent cook and storyteller. He loved to play cards, visit with family and friends and to especially share stories. He had a quick wit with all and loved the outdoors and fishing. Jim was a simple man with an incredible way to show his love to all and will be missed by many. Jim was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church and the Aloysius Schmitt American Legion Post #691. Jim is survived by his sister: Edith Eckley, San Mateo, CA. One nephew: Mike (Patty) Kruse, Waterloo, IA. Five nieces: Sandra (Marv) Kuehner, Marshalltown, IA; Sue (Lee) Alcock, Fort Myers, FL; Becky (Bernie) Fettkether, Fort Myers, FL; Cyndi (Bob) Lahn, Westminster, CO; Terri (Robin) Peterson Fort Myers, FL; and Barbara Eckley, San Mateo, CA, along with several great nieces and nephews and great great nieces and nephews. Special friend: Kay Dempsey, West Union, IA. Jim was preceded in death by his parents: Victor and Teresa (Mihm) Perry. Two sisters: Leona (Ralph) Kruse and Erma (Edward) Blong. One great nephew: Michael.
