Jeremy "Jake" Randal Poshusta, beloved father, son, brother, fiancé, and friend, was born on November 27, 1973, to Randal and Lois (Haugstad) Poshusta. His two boys were his greatest pride and joy! He had an infectious personality, and an unwavering passion for sports.
He attended CFS Catholic School and graduated from South Winneshiek High School in 1992. He earned a Bachelor of Business degree from Mount Mercy College in Cedar Rapids in 1996. He worked most of his career as a business analyst. He married Kathleen Hudson in 2009 and together they had two sons, Hudson Randal and Brooks Miller and their beloved dog Wrigley of 14 years, who he loved spending time with. They later divorced.
Jake’s sons, Hudson, 13, and Brooks, 10, were the light of his life and he enjoyed spending time with them and attending all of their events, even coaching them in various sports. He was so proud of them. He was an avid sports fan with a passion for the Iowa Hawkeyes, spent many days wearing a Hawks hat or shirt and was the keeper of sports facts. He attended the Indy 500 for over 20 years with his brother and numerous friends, creating unforgettable memories and comradery (and many t-shirts). He also frequently attended the Newton Indy Race where he met his loving fiancé, Chris Freland.
Jake possessed a magnetic personality that brought people together. There was never a stranger when Jake was around. He treasured the moments spent laughing and connecting with friends and family. Known for his love of playing basketball, volleyball, and softball, he also took pride in having a great haircut. Jake was known to be late, but the party started when he finally arrived. He was often heard calling out his signature “HOUSE SPECIAL!” for him and his friends. Jake liked to make up his own rules as you played the game to give himself an advantage. He also was known to argue a moot point just for fun and enjoyment. His warm laugh and radiant smile will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Jake is survived by his two beloved sons, Hudson and Brooks; his fiancé, Chris Freland; his parents, Randal and Lois Poshusta; and his siblings, Andrea (Mark) Knutson, Aaron (Tanya Gray) Poshusta, and Katie (Ryan) Teslow. He was a proud uncle to his nieces and nephews: Christopher (Maria) Knutson, Jenna Knutson, Calvin (Brooke Courtney) Knutson, Joshua Knutson, Landon, Lennox, and Luca Teslow and his great niece, Mabel Bea Knutson; and is also remembered by his fiancé's parents, Robert and Deb Hamilton and his fiancé’s children, Cody Freland, Rachel (Joey) Gale, and Regan Freland. Jake was preceded in death by his grandparents, Wilmer and Mildred Poshusta, Enster and Gertrude Haugstad, along with several aunts and uncles.
