Jeanette Williams, age 69, of Iowa City, IA, formerly of Decorah, IA, died suddenly on Friday, April 9, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, IA. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, with Rev. Bryan Robertson from the Decorah Lutheran Church presiding. Burial will be in the Freeport Cemetery. Friends may call after 12:00 noon on Tuesday at the funeral home. Jeanette Alice (Macal) Williams was born on February 15, 1941, the daughter of Ralph and Myrtle (Severtsgaard) Macal in Decorah, Iowa. Jeanette was baptized and confirmed on November 4, 1956 at the Decorah Lutheran Church. She graduated from Decorah High School in 1959. Jeanette was united in marriage in 1960 to Larry Martz. To this union, one son was born: Michael. They later divorced and she married Leo Williams. She moved to Iowa City in 2005. Jeanette worked at the Oneota Care Facility in Decorah and was an in-home caregiver for many years. She enjoyed playing bingo, reading, doing puzzles and spending time with her son and her family and friends. She also was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. She will be greatly missed. Jeanette is survived by her son: Michael (Janice) Martz, Muscatine, IA. Two-step grandchildren: Cory (Belinda) Church and Jessica Church & friend Brandon. One step-great granddaughter: Gabriella Church. Three brothers: Edwin (Shirley) Macal, Decorah, IA; Leo (Ardis) Macal, Decorah, IA, and Melvin (Nancy) Macal, McGregor, IA, along with seven nieces and nephews. Jeanette was preceded in death by her parents: Ralph and Myrtle Macal.
