Jeanette G. Bergan, age 93, of Ridgeway, IA, died on Saturday, August 27, 2011 at Ossian Senior Hospice, Ossian, IA. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Monday, September 5, 2011 at Peace Lutheran Church in Ridgeway, IA with Rev. Ronald Fretheim officiating. Burial will be in United Lutheran Cemetery in rural Ridgeway. Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Sunday, September 4 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and on Monday one hour before the service at the church. Jeanette Gertrude Bergan was born on March 20, 1918 in Britton, South Dakota, the daughter of Halvor and Alice (Zellmar) Halverson. She was baptized and confirmed into the Lutheran faith in South Dakota. She attended the Marshall County Public schools in Britton, South Dakota. On February 9, 1940, Jeanette was united in marriage with Lloyd E. Bergan in Decorah, Iowa. To this union four children were born: Roger, Carol, Lorraine and Jane. Jeanette was a loving wife, mother and helpmate living on the farm where they raised their children. She was an active member of Peace Lutheran Church and had been involved in ladies aid, WELCA, and sewing circle. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, embroidering, canning fruits and vegetables, and African violets and barrel cacti. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd on November 6, 2005; three sisters: Eleanor Malstrom, Hazel Moen, and Arlene Bundrock; and a brother in infancy. Jeanette is survived by her son, Roger Bergan of Ridgeway, IA; her three daughters: Carol (Kenneth) Nesvik of Manchester, TN, Lorraine (Richard) Hendrickson of Ossian, IA, and Jane Bergan of Decorah, IA; six grandchildren: Terry (Dawn) Bergan of Arlington, TX, Jason (Holly) Bergan of Grand Prairie, TX, Linda Nesvik and Cindy Nesvik, both of Manchester, TN, Heather (Matthew) Hendrickson Kincade of Green Bay, WI, and Nathan Hendrickson of Appleton, WI; four great-grandchildren: Christian Gunnar Bergan and Hayden, Brennan, and Jacob Kincade; and also by nieces and nephews.
