Janice R. Ramstad

Janice Ramstad, age 59, of Decorah, IA, died on Monday, May 19, 2008, at her home, following a sudden illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m., Friday, May 23, 2008, at the Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah, IA, with Rev. Doug Mathison of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Cemetery, rural Decorah, IA. Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa, and after 10:30 a.m. at the church on Friday morning. Janice Ruth (Miller) Ramstad was born on September 20, 1948, the daughter of Leonard and Ruth (Hansmeier) Miller in Waukon, IA. Janice graduated from Waukon High School in 1967 and worked for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company. She married Larry Ramstad on June 22, 1968, at the Decorah Lutheran Church in Decorah. Janice was the bookkeeper for Larry while he ran Larry’s Phillips 66 in Decorah and for Ramstad Construction. She also worked at Slenderizers and was a proud Melaleuca member. Above all, Janice loved her family and especially her grandchildren. She was an avid Garth Brooks fan, loved flower gardening, puzzles, playing cards, feeding & watching the birds and wildlife. Janice was a member of the Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church. Janice’s survivors include her husband, Larry Ramstad, Decorah, IA. One son: Troy (Renee) Ramstad, Decorah, IA. One daughter: Nicole (Barrett) McCasland, Decorah, IA. Five grandchildren: Tyler, Karli and Katelyn Ramstad, and Luke and Larra McCasland. Her mother: Ruth Miller, Waukon, IA. Two sisters: Sharon (Jim) Boland, Decorah, IA and Rhonda (Kirby) Cahoon, Waukon, IA. Three brothers: Charles (Jeanie) Miller, Corvallis, OR; Dennis (Karla) Miller, Waukon, IA and Clint Miller, Waukon, IA; along with several nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Her father-in-law: Syver Ramstad, Decorah, IA. One brother-in-law: John (Jackie) Ramstad, Decorah, IA and one sister-in-law: Carol (Ken) Moore, Blue Earth, MN. Janice was preceded in death by her father: Leonard Miller. Her mother-in-law: Nina Ramstad and one great niece: Amanda Berg.
