Janet Kostman

Janet Kostman, age 75, passed away on Tuesday January 21, 2020 at Aase Haugen Homes in Decorah, IA, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s. Visitation and memorial service will be from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2020 at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah with the memorial service at 7:00 p.m. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 14, 2020 at the Oakland Cemetery in Waukon. Janet Evelyn (Gelo) Kostman was born July 29, 1944 to George and Helen (Ralston) Gelo in Waukon, IA. She was united in marriage with Delmar Kostman on November 14, 1961 in Caledonia, MN. Janet earned her CNA certification and worked in nursing facilities around northeastern Iowa. Janet resided in many other states with her husband and children before moving back to northeast IA. Janet was a strong-willed woman, whose faith guided her life, and left an impression on everyone that she encountered. She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.Enjoyed fishing with her husband and family. She also enjoyed listening to Irish singer Danny O’Donnell. Janet is survived by two daughters: Joan (John) Zidlicky, Spillville, IA and Diane (Todd)Fossum, Stoughton, WI; three sons, David (Kelly) Kostman, Cresco, IA, Jerry Kostman, Baytown, TX and Donald (Kim) Kostman, Granbury, TX; along with eighteen grandchildren, and fifteen great-grandchildren and a sister Donna Moen (Dale), Ossian, IA. Janet was preceded in death by her husband: Delmar Kostman, her parents: George and Helen (Ralston) Gelo, two children: in infancy John Michael and Julie Marie; a brother: Francis Gelo and a great-grandchild: Andrew Kostman. We would like to thank all the wonderful staff at Aase Haugen Home and to St. Croix Hospice for all their love and time spent with our mother. Memorials can be made to St Croix Hospice.
