Jane Panoch, age 72, of rural Castalia, IA, died Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at the Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, IA, after a short illness. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 7, 2008, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Ossian, Iowa, with Monsignor Cletus Hawes officiating. Burial will be in the Frankville Cemetery in Frankville, IA. Friends may call from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Decorah, Iowa, and after 9:30 a.m. at the church on Monday morning. Jane Ann (Meyer) Panoch was born on October 26, 1935, the daughter of Alfred and Ella (Palas) Meyer in Postville, IA. Jane was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Postville, IA. In her younger years, she helped her family at the hatchery in Postville. She graduated from Postville High Scholl in 1955. Jane worked as nurses’ aide at the New Hampton Hospital Jane married Joseph Panoch on April 26, 1958 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in New Hampton, IA. Together they farmed near Frankville, while she also worked at the Postville Hospital until it closed and then to Good Samaritan Nursing Home until she retired. Jane enjoyed working, cooking and spending time with her granddaughter, Marissa. She enjoyed her daily chats on the phone with her friend, Pat Pankow. Jane was a member of the West Post Project Club in Postville and enjoyed meeting with the “Neighborhood Gals” at Christmastime. Jane’s survivors include her husband: Joseph Panoch, Castalia, IA. One daughter: JoEllen (Loren) Foels, Postville, IA and one son: James Panoch, Castalia, IA. One granddaughter: Marissa Foels, Postville, IA. Two sisters-in-law: Lorraine Scholbrock, New Hampton, IA and Gigi Wollenberg, Rochester, MN. Three brothers-in-law: Ray (Carol) Panoch, New Hampton, IA, Ron (Nancy) Panoch, Punta Gorda, Florida and Donnie Panoch, Fredericksburg, IA along with many cousins and nieces and nephews. Jane was preceded in death by her parents: Alfred and Ella Meyer. Two brothers: Dean (Eilene) and Dale (Evelyn) Meyer. Three brothers-in-law: Marvin Scholbrock, Norman Wallemberg and Leland Panoch. One sister-in-law: Rosemarie Blong.
