James Yahr, age 57, of Decorah, IA, died on Sunday, July 8, 2012, at his home. Friends may call from 4:00-6:00 p.m., on Wednesday, July 11, 2012, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home. Burial will be held at the Phelps Cemetery, Decorah, Iowa. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. James Gene Yahr was born on December 5, 1954, the son of Ervin and Ina (Phillips) Yahr, Sr., in Decorah, IA. James grew up in Chicago and worked many different jobs over the years. He returned in Decorah in 2004, and enjoyed watching TV and doing word puzzles. James is survived by his two children: Thelma (Joe) Mosher, Berwyn, IL, and James (fiancée, Carrie Serna) Yahr, Berwyn, IL. Three grandsons: Joey Mosher III, Noah Mosher and Aiden Mosher. Two sisters: Kathy (Isaac) Sherman, Decorah, IA, and Jill Dobrin, Fargo, ND. One brother: Ervin (Maureen) Yahr, Jr., Decorah, IA. Nieces and nephews: Penny Sherman, David (Beth) Sherman, Billy (Desi) Sherman, Munch (fiancée Megan Arneson) Sherman, Kaitlyn and Ervin William Yahr III, and Carly (fiancée Jason Maki) Dobrin. Great nieces and nephews: Anthony & Christopher Sherman, Richelle & Skylar Sherman, and Olivia Dobrin. One aunt: Jean O’Hare, Waukon, IA. James was preceded in death by his mother: Ina (Phillips) Yahr in 1989 and his father: Ervin Yahr, Sr. in 1991, along with several aunts, uncles and cousins.
