James "Jimmy Pete" Peterson

James “Jimmy Pete” Peterson, age 67, of Decorah, IA, died Sunday, November 6, 2011, at the Aase Haugen Nursing Home in Decorah, IA Funeral Service will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 11, 2011 at Decorah Lutheran Church. Rev. Bryan Robertson presiding, burial will be in the Lutheran Cemetery in Decorah Visitation will be 4:00 – 6:00 p.m. Thursday, November 10, 2011, at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home in Decorah and after 10:00 at the church on Friday. James Selmer Peterson was born on November 26, 1943, the son of Selmer and Stella (Tangen) Peterson, in Decorah, Iowa. Jimmy was baptized and confirmed in his faith at Decorah Lutheran and Canoe Ridge Lutheran Churches. He attended Glenwood Township #8 Country School and then he worked on the home farm until he moved into town with his parents. He then worked for Fred Carlson Co. for a few years. Jimmy enjoyed mowing yards, picking up leaves, shoveling snow, baling hay, digging graves and helping people do whatever needed to be done. He also dog sat for Gladys Grindeland over the years. Jimmy liked to listen to country music, play pull tabs and play in Euchre card tournaments. Over the years, Jimmy had a good memory of events and liked to visit at family get-togethers, where he always enjoyed his nieces and nephews. Jimmy is survived by his three sisters: Grace Nesheim, Decorah, IA, Arla Ihde, Decorah, IA and Ruth (Norvel) Sheldon, Stewartville, MN. Two brothers: Lester (Evie) Peterson, Decorah, IA and Curtis (Marilyn) Peterson, Decorah, IA., along with nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents: Selmer and Stella Peterson. Two brothers-in-law: Donald Ihde and Walter Nesheim. One niece: Dawn Peterson.
