Irvin Ameling

Irvin Ameling, age 78, of St. Lucas, Iowa, died on Wednesday, November 10, 2010, at his home. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 15, 2010, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday, November 14, 2010, at the Historical Chapel in St. Lucas, Iowa, from 2:00-6:00 p.m. and also after 9:00 a.m., on Monday morning. There will be a rosary at 4:00 p.m. and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Irvin Alois Ameling was born on September 27, 1932, the son of John and Mathilda (Kruse) Ameling on the family farm, near St. Lucas, Iowa, in Fayette County. Irvin attended St. Luke’s Catholic School and helped on the family farm. He married Alma Winter on May 5, 1954, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa. Together they farmed the family farm. Irvin also hauled milk in the cans, did custom farm work and sold seed corn. Irvin enjoyed fishing, coon hunting, going to tractor pulls and traveling. Over the years, he enjoyed playing pool, cards and softball. He was an avid New York Yankee fan and enjoyed all family activities. Irvin was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas. Irvin is survived by his wife: Alma Ameling, St. Lucas, IA. Four daughters: Donna (Bruce) Fink, West Union, IA; Kathy (Duane “Smokey”) Langreck, Hawkeye, IA; Sandy (Steve) Krivachek, West Union, IA; and Betty (Jeff) Langreck, West Union, IA. Two sons: Roger (Amy) Ameling, West Union, IA, and Jeff Ameling, Hawkeye, IA. Nine grandchildren: Sawyer Fink, Charity & Nicole Langreck; Kyle (Jaclyn) Krivachek, Kelsey Krivachek; Adam & Kelly Langreck; and Dillon & Allison Ameling. One great grandson: Logan Blue. One brother: Felix (Collette) Ameling, West Union, IA. Three sisters: Marcella Wurzer, Lawler, IA; Arlene Huinker, Calmar, IA; and Bernice (Pat) Einck, Cedar Falls, IA. Brothers and sisters-in-law: Cletus Mihm, West Union, IA; Delbert Winter, Waucoma, IA; Ida Ameling, Fort Atkinson, IA; Irma (Virgil) Thuente, Festina, IA; Leona Bullerman, Calmar, IA; and Mary Lou Winter, Lawler, IA. Irvin was preceded in death by his parents: John and Mathilda (Kruse) Ameling. Four brothers: Joe (Bernice) Ameling; Richard (Addie) Ameling; Alfred (Elaine) Ameling; and Clarence Ameling. One sister: Viola Mihm. One sister-in-law: Ruby Winter. Four brothers-in-law: Tony Wurzer, Robert Huinker, Vincent Bullerman, and Melvin Winter.
