Irene Floy

Irene Floy, age 84, of Decorah, IA passed away peacefully at her current home in Otsego with her son David and daughter in law Amy by her side on February 1st. Celebration of Life will be held at the Decorah Lutheran Church at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, February 8, 2022 with Pastor Peter Kowitz officiating. Burial will be at the Lutheran Cemetery at a later date. Visitation will be one hour before the service. The family strongly encourages that masks be worn for this celebration. Condolences may be sent to Michael Floy at: 305 Pershing Ave, Decorah IA 52101 Irene was born on July 15th, 1937, the daughter of Johann and Mariea Herm (Becker) in Karlsruhe, Germany. Irene attended and graduated from school in Germany. She also attended some pastry school and enjoyed sporting events with her brother Walter. It was in Karlsruhe that she met Donald Floy while he was stationed there and married in October 1957, making their home in Wiesbaden. In 1959 Irene and her son Michael, came to the United States. Irene lived with Donald’s family in Dassel, MN until he later joined her after completing his military service. In 1967 Irene Floy became a US citizen; something that she was very proud of. Irene and Don had two other children, David and Deanna and lived in various locations where Irene met many wonderful people. In 1977 Irene and Don settled in Decorah Iowa where they made their home. Irene worked in Anthony’s and Vanberia Scandinavian Imports, for many years and enjoyed meeting all the patrons of the stores. Friendship and family (especially the grandchildren) has always been a very important part of Irene’s life and her circle of friends included the various “coffee groups”. Irene is survived by: sons, Michael Floy & wife Marcia, Decorah, IA and David Floy & wife Amy, Otsego, MN and daughter; Deanna Stoube & husband Mark, Davenport, IA. Twelve grandchildren: Kristopher Floy (Val), Amanda Floy (fiancée Nick Scott), Ashley Olsen, Daniel Floy, Donald K. Floy, and Dustin Floy, Sean Stoube (Jessica), Dara Burke (Chris), Seth Stoube (Lauren) Austin Maples, Caitlin Johnson (Adam), and Sierra Theis (Cody). Great-grandchildren: Keara, Brayden and Nevaeh Floy, Talon and Sadie Olsen, Remington and Samantha Stoube, Donovan Floy and Halia Washington, and Connor and Adalyn Johnson. Her sister in laws, Carol Pueggell, Garner, IA and Ellen Herm, Velbert, Germany and several nieces and nephews along with an extended family in Germany. Irene was preceded in death by her husband: Donald Floy. Parents: Johann and Mariea Herm. Brother: Walter Herm.
