Hermina Boeding, age 91, of Fort Atkinson, IA, died on Friday, November 12, 2010, at the New Hampton Nursing and Rehab Center in New Hampton, IA. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, November 19, 2010, at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 3:00-8:00 p.m. on Thursday, at the Schluter – Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Fort Atkinson, IA, and after 9:30 a.m., on Friday morning at St. Luke’s Catholic Church in St. Lucas, Iowa. The Schluter – Balik Funeral Home in Fort Atkinson, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements. Hermina Barbara (Rausch) Boeding, was born July 19, 1919, on the family farm north of St. Lucas, IA, to Hugo and Barbara (Hackman) Rausch. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Luke Church, Saint Lucas, Iowa. She attended St. Luke’s Catholic School. On November 22, 1938, she married Arnold Boeding at Saint Luke Catholic Church. The couple then farmed for over fifty years southwest of Saint Lucas. Hermina had a great appreciation of nature and music. She was a cheerful worker and a great cook (the sons–in–law would vouch for that). Her hobbies included reading, gardening, ceramics, making hairpin lace afghans, bird watching, and playing games. Hermina was renowned and admired by family for her ability to recite, even on her 91st birthday, poems and other memorized material learned in school many years ago. She was known for her quick wit and wonderful sense of humor. She loved and was dearly loved by many, especially her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Hermina is survived by her nine children and their spouses: Doris and Donald Ott, Ankeny, IA; Kathleen and Earl Drilling, Waucoma, IA; Gerald and Joan Boeding, Johnston, IA; Carol Lechtenberg, Miltona, MN; Ronald and Audrey Boeding, Pleasant Hill, IA; Marvin and Kathy Boeding, Loveland, CO; Duane and Claudia Boeding, Le Grand, IA; Linda and Charles Thompson, Tulsa, OK; and Lois and Bruce Fure, Rochester, MN. She is also survived by twenty-four grandchildren and thirty-four great grandchildren. One brother: Herb (Christine) Rausch, Fort Atkinson, IA. Two sisters: Verena (James) Croatt, West Union, IA and Laura Kuboushek, Calmar, IA. Two sisters-in-law: Armida Rausch, Ontario, CA, and Darlys Rausch, Saint Lucas, IA; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Hermina was preceded in death by her parents, Hugo and Barbara Rausch. Her husband: Arnold Boeding on January 29, 1989. One son-in-law: Kenneth Lechtenberg on June 5, 2008. One granddaughter: Jenny Boeding on Oct. 21, 1990. Three brothers: Carl, Alex and Donald Rausch. One sister-in-law: Loretta Rausch, and one brother-in-law: Robert Kuboushek.
