Helen A. Gehling

Helen Gehling, age 76, of Calmar, Iowa, died on Thursday, December 21, 2006, at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, following a heart attack. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 26, 2006, at St. Aloysius Catholic Church, Calmar, Iowa, with Rev. Donald Hawes officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call after 10:00 a.m. at the church on Tuesday morning. Helen Ann Gehling was born on March 31, 1930, the daughter of Roman and Anna (Bakula) Gehling on the family farm near Calmar, Iowa. Helen attended St. Aloysius Catholic School. She helped on the family farm and worked as a caretaker for many years and also took care of her father for many years. Helen was a member of St. Aloysius Catholic Church, the Calmar Senior Citizen’s Center and the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary. Helen’s survivors include her two brothers: Edward Gehling, Decorah, IA and Larry (Ginny) Gehling, Calmar, IA. One Aunt: Lucina Koch, Manchester, IA.A former sister-in-law: Florence Gehling, Decorah, IA. Thirteen nieces and nephews: Christine (Gerald) Moellers, Ridgeway, IA; Nancy Schissel, Spillville, IA; Kathy (Terry) Kuennen, Fort Atkinson, IA; Julie (David) Hemesath, Fort Atkinson, IA; Jennie (Bill) Hageman, Ossian, IA; Nick (Linda) Gehling, Decorah, IA; David (Lucy) Gehling, Decorah, IA; Bob (Nancy) Gehling, Calmar, IA; Deb (Bob) Timp, Decorah, IA; Ronnie Gehling, Lansing, IA; Sandy (Keith) Kuennen, Ossian, IA; Sue (Ken) Einck, Festina, IA and Carol (Jamie) Gerleman, Calmar, IA and many great nieces and nephews. Helen was preceded in death by her mother: Anna Gehling in Nov. 11, 1980; her father, Roman on Sept. 12, 2002; one brother: Florian Gehling on April 25, 1977; and one sister-in-law: LaVonne Gehling on June 16, 2005.
