Hazel R. Moen, age 94 of Decorah, Iowa, died Monday evening, October 31, 2005 at Oneota Riverview Care Facility in Decorah following a short illness. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday, November 4, 2005 at First Lutheran Church in Decorah by Rev. H.G. Engebretson, with burial in Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00-7:00 P.M. Thursday, November 3, 2005 at Fjelstul Funeral Home in Decorah and an hour prior to services on Friday at the church. Hazel Rosetta Moen was born October 7, 1911 in Platte, South Dakota, the daughter of Henry T. and Tillie C. (Anderson) Nesset. She attended elementary school in Frankville Township, Winneshiek County, Iowa and graduated from Decorah High School with the Class of 1924. She was united in marriage to Melvin T. Moen on August 2, 1931 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. To this union, two children were born: Dale and Marilyn. Hazel worked as a secretary at the Winneshiek County Clerk of Court office in the Courthouse, various attorneys in Decorah, Dr. Donald Moore’s office, the K.H. Peterson Agency and Travel for 28 years, and the Karl Aschim insurance office. She was a Red Cross volunteer for many years. Hazel was a member of First Lutheran Church in Decorah where she was active in the church circle, Do-Day, and taught Sunday School. She was also a member of Silvercrest Golf and Country Club and the Elks Club in Decorah. Hazel was a loving, caring and devoted Mother and Grandmother. She was an avid walker and belonged to a bridge club for many years. She became a resident of Oneota Riverview Care Facility on July 14, 2005. Hazel died Monday, October 31, 2005 at the care facility at the age of 94 years. Survivors include a son, Dale (Gloria) Moen of Decorah; a daughter, Marilyn (Frank) Kerkhove of Central, UT.; five grandchildren, Jacque Lynn Amarose of Mt. Pleasant, MI., Alan (Ellen) Moen of Manhattan Beach, CA., Pamela (Mike) Babcock of Rudyard, MI., Kristen Boller of Bloomington, MN., and Kurt Nelson of St. Paul, MN.; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Arnold (Myrtle) Nesset of Jacksonville, FL. and Kenneth (Ruth) Nesset of Decorah. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin on July 9, 1986; a brother Raymond Nesset and a sister, Dorothy Eanetta.
