Harold Lee

Harold Lee, age 84, of Decorah, IA passed away on Monday, January 10, 2022 at Winneshiek Medical Center. His funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the Decorah Lutheran Church, 309 Winnebago St, Decorah, IA 52101 with Rev. Peter Kowitz and Marlin Mowry presiding. Visitation will be from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 15, 2022 at the church. Harold Stanley Lee was born on September 7, 1937, in rural Decorah, the son of Martin and Solveig (Warhuus) Lee. Harold was a “stubborn” Norwegian with a big heart. He was always ready with a joke or a story and was willing to help whoever needed it. He was “one of a kind” and very proud of his Norwegian heritage and his time served in the Navy from 1955 to 1975 on numerous bases and ships. After his retirement from the military, he moved back to Decorah where he worked various jobs including Holland Brothers Construction and Winneshiek County Road Department. He was a member of Canoe Ridge Lutheran Church, VFW Post 1977, and the American Legion. He enjoyed meeting for morning coffee at McDonalds and made daily stops at Kwik Star. Harold also enjoyed day roadtrips, driving his Ford tractor around the country and through town, fixing things, fishing, and playing cards. He was not one to sit idle. Harold would start a conversation with everyone he met and loved listening to their stories or being the story teller. He enjoyed seeing his buddies at Navy reunions and many are still life long friends. He is survived by his wife: Verna Lee, Decorah, IA. Daughter: Deborah (Vincent) Moretti, Fairfield, CA. Grandson: Noah Moretti, Fairfield, CA. Sisters: Ellen (Chet) Bogucki, Remer, MN, Solveig Steine, Winona, MN. Sisters-in-law: Karen Lee, Decorah, IA, Margaret Lundvedt, Agnes (Anthony) Kruse, Ruth Funke, and Ella Smith. along with many nieces, nephews, and friends. Harold was preceded in death by his parents: Martin and Solveig Lee. Brothers: Syver (Nina) Ramstad and Melvin Lee. Brothers-in-law: Dick Steine, Arnold Lundvedt, Kenneth Funke and Wesley Smith.
